Unwrap!!!!!!

I have tried and tried and tried to unwrap a model and have searched the internet but i cant find n e thing on unwrapping. I am using 3ds max 4. I need to know how to unnwrap! Please!

1. add a uvw map modifier.
set it to planar. make stretch across the model length wise. u do this by selecting y axis, and clicking "fit".

2 add uvw unwrap modifier.
select the faces u want to unwrap, then click edit. arrange it on the texture sheet it shows. wat u want to do is do it by body part. start with the head, the to the chest, etc. do it til u have everything on ur texture sheet.

3. dl texporter

4. run texporter. make sure u have the file extension as .tga.

5. use the exported file to make ur texture.

6. set it as ur diffuse bit map on one of the mats and apply to ur mesh. it should work.

Im having a little trouble with step 2. I cant get all the faces in the right place. I understand everything else though. But when i unwrap it doesnt show everything and its all deformed.

i know this is probably imposiible, but i would HIGHLY recomment getting 3ds max 5. the unwrapping is SO much easier.

on step 2 u might have to hit a button called planar map. sry, i may have forgetten to mention that. that should do it.

Thanx! I think i understand it all now. It still doesnt turn out right but i think i did somethin wrong. Ill get it soon :D

Can you do this more detailed again? An example would be nice. Perhabs an object with 3 meshes.

Why would he get 5 when the art tools are for 3dsmax 4?

Thnks a lot gurubvin, now I can unwrap!

The art tools work with Max 5, too. I still do not understand how to unwrap. I need a example!
