Rooting heroes??

Im trying to make a hero who look like ancient protector AND can root. I made a ancient protector hero (from keeper of grove base) and added root skill (un modified except name). But when i start game:

1: he starts rooted.
2: he has no spells when i uproot him
3: i cant root him, it doesnt look like placing a building, there is no "tile-placement", and when i try to root him it says "the treant may not root there" i AM on buildable ground, nothing is close to the hero, etc.

Anybody got a idea on how to do it?

Uprooted and rooted units are 2 different things, you would need to make identical/slightly changed stats for both.

If it's a hero, you should just be able to select him in the editor, go into properties, and have root unchecked (at least I think)

1: Does the hero get XP while rooted? im making an AoS and it wont be fun loosing all xp while sieging=)

2: He cant use abilities when rooted...?

3: I noticed that u kill the one u have and create a new, rooted one. Wont he loose his level and stuff?

4: I succeded in making a submerge hero skill (WITHOUT TRIGGERS), which uses 2 different models. i just made my hero finished, then copied him and used him as submerged model with 0 mov (worked). But i dont think HE can gain xp while submerged....

5: Sorry but it looks kinda crappy when he blinks for a sec to become and new one:D

Well cool work i never even tried making a skill by scripts... Is there no other way?

EDIT: im gonna try something with the Pandas ultimate, they are units who gain xp!

EDIT2: i think i got it! i make it like storm, earth, fire; if he click on skill he uses root animation, and then storm earth fire - create a rooted one? ill try...

1) Thats easy. Give me a minute and I'll get you one that gains xp.

2) Sorry, you're stuck for that.

3) Actually, I just hide him. Which means that he can't be seen, used or selected, but he is stored in memory.

4) Have you tested it to see if he retains abilities? He shouldn't.

5) The triggers were done in a couple of minutes. Unfortunately, there isn't really a way to stop that happening. But in the new one I'm doing I'll cover it up with SFX. That way people won't notice.

About your Storm Earth and Fire idea, might work. But it is a duration spell, not an on/off spell. But if thats ok, go for it.

4: he does. I think they made something like that inside the skill when they made it, to make this possible. But im not sure he gains XP... but when he go to surface, hes EXACTLY the same as he was before he dived:D.

5: The worst thing with the skill (im deffinetely not saying it was bad), is when he changes model u can clearly see that it changes....

About the submerge skill, thats really cool.

And yeah, like I said, you can't get rid of that wierd gap. If it was just a unit changing into a unit then it'd work, but it isn't.

Well good luck, i just skipped it (wasnt important, every hero is just gonna have a permanent on-start skill, so i used "stunning boulders"(modified bash) insted:D).

i made a rooted unit, it was super easy, i made the root skill, made the hero, copied the hero and pasted him and changed a few stats, just give both the heros all the abilitied (including root) and your dun, he keeps the same level, same xp, same hp (%) same mana (%) and keeps the exp gained while rooted

Im not sure about this never tested it but i think that root will be like a kind of morph the unit morf into a rooted tree

well then you make a hero that looks like a rooted tree and set movement speed to 00 and give him the ability to uproot

yes yes.. u are both totally correct, and it was exactly the same way i made submerge skill with. Now, the only problem is u can copy a hero and make it a "hero-building". I copied hero but i cant root (as it does not show tiles and it says "cant root there"). Is there a special stat change u need to make it placable as building?

ok, i'll give you a step by step

1. create your hero and spells (including root)
2. copy your hero and give all the spells to one hero
3. make your "rooted" version of your hero have 0 movement speed and ONLY the root ability




if this doesn't work i'll post a map that has it
