So, I had this idea about making a mini-mod tipe campaign. It would basicaly change warcraft 3 into a Homeworld-type game (although gameplay would be quite different due to the constraints of the warcraft 3 engine). I already have one of the models made and got it ingame, and I'm planing on doing most of the work on my own, but before starting out I wanted to know what kind of intrest there would be for a campaign like this. To further clarify how game play will be- You'll command a group of fighters and capital ships (there will be no building of units, although you can get reinforcements) throughout a seiries of missions to stop aliens from reaching earth (I promise there will be a far better story then that, but theres the bare bones). You'll fight through enviroments like asteroid belts and old shipwreaks, and other space based enviroments. Thats basicaly it. if there's interest, I'll post some pics and maybe some more info. |

Sure- heres a quick pic. I took in world editor: Yes, i made the terrain black. I noticed that War 3 uses a sky box, so I'm going to try and make the terrain invisable (probably impossiable) and put a space tex on the sky- but if I just put a space bg on the ground it would change evertime you zoomed in. As for the ship, the texture obviously isn't done I'm actually probably going to toss the whole texture over and start on it again. Keep in mind that what you're seeing is only the product of a few hours of work, and don't judge what I'm doing to much by the screen shot. |

Really nice, I'd love to play this kind of stuff. But just be sure you are going to finish it ;). Anyway, are you going to have planets and stuff "on the map" so to say? Or are you just fighting it out in the void, without the use of planets? |

He mentioned Homeworld, so I'm guessing a base made up of ships, and various spacial resources - gas nebulae, mineral satelites etc. |

I actually don't think there will be any unit building- you will be able to get reinforcesments from time to time though. As for planets- if I can make them work without looking rediculous, I'll use them. The maps will be voids most of the time, however, and they'll be filled with astiroids, gas clouds, etc. (The astriroids will be destructiable, along with other floating debrie) along with things like shipwreaks, space-outposts, etc.. In the end, though, I might include a multiplayer mode where you could build stuff. Anyway, does anyone have anymore suggestions? |

I suggest you change a tileset to be completely black and only have stars on it, then set it as your main tile-set so it sort of looks like there really is no ground. |

Unfortunatly, putting stars on the ground dont work- every time you zoom in they'd change, and you would be able to tell that, hey, thats the ground! |

So get elevated stars?... |

I'll keep your name in mind, Troll-Lover, but at the moment this is going to be an independent campaign. I want something to boost my skills on, so... (However, there is the chance that this will become too much for me to do) As for stars, I suppose i could create a billboard with a star texture. That might work. |
