An alternate idea for an LotR RPG...

OK this is what I was thinking, everyone knows the LOTR series and how it ends right?
heres some questions i have for you fans of the series...
What do you think would have happened if Frodo was captured?
If Gondor actually had gotten possesion of the ring of power?
If the humans lost the battle of pellenor fields?
What if Middle-Earth was overrun, and the race of hobbits was extinct? And there existed a small renegade community elves, humans and dwarves that try and fight against saurons forces....

but heres the twist, what if you played as an Orcish General on the side of Sauron?

Right now its single player map but might change to have a horde-like rpg-style ((every person has a duty within the horde for it to survive and conquer middle-earth))

I have a story already set out for this im just wanting to know what people would think

Put that suggestion right in the bozo bucket. Hezza, c'mon. Warcraft III is an inordinately playable game, and you know what? They used basic models. Models alone do not make a good game; hell, did you watch Final Fantasy: The Movie? Beautiful models, lame story. Result: Nobody cared.

I like the idea of a twist on the story, but playing as an army commander and running your army against computer controlled armies sounds a little.. dull. How about this - instead of unleashing hordes of unthinking bad guys, you and your compadres are leading a special strike force to capture Frodo and get the ring, or otherwise make sure the ring falls into Sauron's hand.

So essentially, you're playing a small group of warriors, certainly not able to take on an army (in fact, since armies are on the move all over the map, you need to NOT be there, or you'll simply be killed). You need to move past signs of open conflict and follow the trail of the ring bearer. The climax would be actually getting the ring and getting back to Mordor with it - remember, though, that EVERYBODY who sees the ring wants to posess it for themselves, and that INCLUDES your army.. so you'll need to steer clear of them too.

How's that sound?

I personally think it woul dbe better if it just followed legolas- but I am sort of biased :P

Overall not bad. Sounds interesting with the "what ifs"

I think it sounds pretty cool, but I just thought I would point out that Frodo actually was captured. He just got away is all. If you do decide to do that special forces thing, will there still be big NPC armies fighting? LotR just wouldn't be the same without huge battles.

thansk for all the crits and comments

i think this will answer everyones questions.

The "horde" is simply you and the other human controlled players, in some scenes you would be able to control a AI controlled army for huge battles with special controls, and the thing is in this story Saurons forces already have possession of the ring there taking it back to him and he is just hunting down the remaining forces that stand against him. Anyway in your "horde" everyone would posses unique skills and a special thing i like to call acheivement points to gaint certain skills and triumphs for your certain character, and in the game you will be able to hire mercenaries controlled by computer AI hat do level up and have basic skills unlike the custom ones im going to be implementing. the map will certainly have a very dark setting and cutscenes like a progressing action-rpg. some taking place with your characters others with NPC's in other areas to progress the story a bit more. In the end it will be a finale no one would expect.
