Have you toyed around with the World Edit program that comes with Warcraft III? You can make maps, campaigns, and even brand new trigger-based spells. All of the files that are worth editing are in an archive file called "War3.mpq" or "War3x.mpq" (if you have Frozen Throne) in the Warcraft III directory. You need a utility called WinMPQ to open and view these archives. Then you need to extract the files you'd like to edit. There are a lot of things you can do once you're tooling around in the MPQ. All of the .slk files are databases you can open in excel to mess with stats and such. I've never messed around with that kind of thing but you can find an arseload of tutorials in the tutorials database at this site. The MDX and BLP files are 3D models and textures respectively. BLPs are encoded TGAs, you can convert and edit in photoshop or paintshop with a tool called Waracraft III Image Extractor (if I'm not mistaken) which you can find the Downlaods section. You can do anything from JASS scripting (WC3's internal language that triggers break down into) to making new 3d models using Discreet's 3D Studio Max and the Art Tools provided by blizzard. All of these are fairly complex and if you're new to the whole modding thing, you might want to devour the tutorials and scour the forums for a bit. Hope this helps. |

Good help Nub. What I don't like about such questions is that they are already answered in the FAQ. Sometimes I wonder if I did it for nothing (of course I didn't). I created these FAQ that people will read it. So please make use of it BEFORE you post. Thanks in advance. BTW, I am going to update it soon. |
