Duplicating units by importing.

Alright, I've read up all I can about skinning and importing a skin to a previously existing model, but for what I'm doing I would like to have the skin I made, along with the default skin (aka 2 units of same unit-type with different skin). It is for the Sorceress, and I already have the skin I want to import made. Trouble is I don't want to override it because I intend on using both the default and mine.

So I guessed you had to import the model again under a different name. With the help of W3V, I exported the sorceress.mdx and sorceress_portrait.mdx and imported them onto my map. Modified the properties and put each of the directories to:
Units\Human\Drow\Sorceress\<filename>

So I had

Units\Human\Drow\Sorceress\Sorceress.mdx
Units\Human\Drow\Sorceress\Sorceress_portrat.mdx
Units\Human\Drow\Sorceress\Sorceress.blp

Saved it, closed UMSWE, opened it back up, import's there but I can't find the unit in the menu. I was expecting another option after Neutral-Naga like "Drow" or something. Obviously a bit premature, but at least I'm trying BEFORE spamming the forums with a question you've probably already answered.

Am I going in the right direction, or is this not even possible?

The pathing may be throwing it off - since you're customizing the path anyway, why not just use war3imported/drow.blp?

But, yes, it is possible.

On second thought, I'm not such an idiot. If I am it's for something compeltely different.

Ok, so the Sorceress worked because there are 2 sorceress models: the RoC version and the TFT version. I overwrote the RoC version, so I had my skin, and the TFT version was still default, so I had thought I did something intelligent. It seems not.

I went to do the same thing w/ the DemonHunter. I've got 2 custom skins I want for the demonhunter (one is human, the other drow, artemis enteri and drizzt), so when I went to do that I was at an impass. Since the model's skin goes to Textures\HeroDemonHunter.blp, and I have to overwrite it, I can only use one skin, because I obviously can't have two skins w/ the same name and directory.

So far the only way for me to get any of the skins to work is to overwrite the originals (I'm assuming because in the .mdx, the .blp associated is whatever the default is, in my case Units\Human\Sorceress\Sorceress.blp). This does not work in my case because I want to keep the originals and create a duplicate model w/ my skin.

I'm guessing I'm going to have to get 3DSMax and associate the .blp within the model file? Does anyone know of a simpler way, or is there not one?
