Yet another TD!

Sorry for making another td, but I am a newb and I find it very important for a newb to be able to make one of these. It should be the first map a newb makes IMO. Anyways here is a discription of my td.

+++++++++++++++++++
Two part game that actually combines into one near the ending. For instance,when people join the game they will have the option to play as either defenders(tower building) or as heros.

-Defenders
Pretty much your basic td style but with some added features such as
the ability to activate rounds at their own pase(Not sure about that
though), being able to make towers that do not attack and just block
monsters, setting traps and many more.

-Heros
Players who choose to be heros will have to creep though various
levels to upgrade their skills. Since I do not know much about editing
spells or making customs, the first version of this map will be lacking
in that department. While the hero creeps he/she will have to option
to buy units to aid them.

-Game properties
+The game will actually have a story line and a plot! Not making this
an RPG is going to be hard:bgrun:
+Once heros creep all levels they will have to fight with the
defenders.
+Observers will play an important and special role. Observers will
be able to posses an enemy unit and gain control over all
their skills/abilities. Oberservers will also be given certain items
over time to give to a hero of choice.
-Game objective(s)
-Defender objectives:
Hold off as long as they can untill the heros arrive. Once they
arrive aid them in any way possible.
-Hero Objectives:
Creep the different levels to reach the defenders and aid them
in stopping the monsters.

The number of levels is not yet known. I have an idea for an 'ending zone'. When the monsters almost get to the regions that takes life away there will be certain nuetral objects/doodads/units that have to be taken control of through triggers to aid them.
Ex:
The last line of pathing that the monster walk through will be lined with sorceress's that cast the spell slow(with added AOE).

I need input on what you think? Any other ideas, suggestions, flames?

I don't like TD's that much but one problem is what if everyone is a defender or if everyone is a hero.

Sounds more like something we would call a infiltration map instead of a TD. Seems to have more in common with Enfo's than anything Else. Sounds cool tho.

Our one suggestion...if its your first map keep it simple. Don't try to come up with something groundbreaking for your first project. We are speaking from experience. Our first project was groundbreaking. It was also four month of hell trying to get advanced concepts into a map when we barely had any idea of how to make a simple one. We spent more time debugging and reworking than anything Else. The end result was a map that had lots of great ideas but was lacking in many areas. If we had spent a week making a simple one from start to finish it probably would have taken us much less time to do our more advanced project.

I have so many different ways I can now go with this map. I do know that this will definitely become a 4-6 part rpg. Although this first one will have elements of a td in it I am not sure about the others. People joining the game will just have to join really quick if they want to be a hero. I will set up slots that will automatically assign people as either heroes or defenders.

+++Update+++

All of the terraining has been completed! All I have left to do is fill it up with monsters, doodads and the such. I will eventually need to get some testers on the map to calibrate the game-play and make it not too difficult. I want this map to be ALMOST unbeatable.

+++Plot Update+++

The main objective of the defenders will be to, well....defend and keep everything from reaching the throne of dominion. The hero's now have a choice of whether or not they will walk the path of darkness or light. The idea is to keep the Evil Bad Guys from claiming the throne of dominion. More of that information will be released with my cinematics that will accompany the release date of this project.

+++GamePlay Preview+++

Heroes creeping will be unable to make allies after they pass a certain point in their journey. If the heroes do not Allie they will automatically be considered evil and trying to claim the throne of dominion for him/herself. Once either the Evil Bad Guy reaches the throne OR the player/hero reaches it the game will be over. A short cinematic clip will give hints to the sequel.

+++Miscellaneous+++
Keeping the game interesting for the defenders should not prove to be a challenge seeing as how most td's are rather dry in the first place. I do suppose a little something will kick it up a notch though. I would hate people to leave the game because they could not be a hero. I think keeping the Evil Bad Guys from reaching the throne will be enough. I am open to suggestions on the TD part. I wont even take into consideration for suggestions about different types of towers, useless to me at this point. Rather something else to keep them occupied........my mind is blank on that part....like a small mini objective or something.

I have a web-page up and as soon as I update the pics I will post the link. I am bad with deadlines but so far, if everything goes as planned and I can get a testing team, this will be completed by Dec31. After that I will work on finishing the cinematics. The cinematics and the map will be release about 5-7 days apart....to let the anticipation build :ggani:

Sadly I do not have the time to do the cinematics or even continue making the sequals. If I do it will have to wait untill I get out of the USMC. I wish I could continue the project passed part 1. This was fun and enlightening. I hope people will enjoy my first and possibly only map that I make.

If any cinematics are done with it, it will probably just be a teaser of the game. I don't make any garuntees on that though.

In the next couple of days I will need someone to help me out with spells and custom heroes. I will give you guidlines and you will be able to do whatever you like as long as you stay withing those guidlines. Payments are negotiable but I am placing the base rate at 40 points per person. Only 2 are needed and anymore that would like to help will have to be voluntary.

If you dont have TOO many heros, i can make triggered spells for each. The most i would do would prollie be...i would say...6? Sorry its just hard these days, NOw if you give me IDEAS then i can do as many as you want.

I can give you the ideas....that is kinda what I meant by guidlines :D .
I will only need 1-2 custom spells for each hero, that will depend on what you can do. Since I will have 4 heroes for each race, the normal heroes, I will need at least 14-28. But I can settle for only doing no less than 8. If you are still willing pm me.

your ideas are great but ideas (i'm going to get flamed into the ground for saying this) hold almost no bearing on the game itself. REALIZING those ideas is what counts, especially in tower defense maps. That said, a few notes on what i have seen so far:

1. account for people being, well, your typical bnet newbs. To do this will be VERY complicated, you would have to correctly balance out the map under almost any amount of players.

2. hero choice... good on paper, bad in action. If all the heroes choose to go evil then ur auto-screwed, if all heroes choose to good then ur screwed, otherwise it will still be very hard to actualize this. Another thing about this is that in your TD map the hero's sole objective wiull be to pass the towers, this will give certain heroes a huge advantage over others and it will just be unfun both ways.

3. Finally, i don't mean to attack any of your ideas, thier great, but i have to say: a tower defense map is a tower defense map. Zoator tried to switch things around but in reality, it is a tad short of impossible to accomplish a TD - AoS hybrid. Firstly and foremost because having a human control the hardness of a td will never work. A TD must be BALANCED and having a human factor in there will be really hard to BALANCE.

Finally, disregard everything i just said and continue as you see fit only keep realism and practicality in mind. Begginers skill does exist and having a fresh outlook on things is a big plus. If you need techincal help ask me anytim (Oh, and i replied to your PM)

I wasn't thinking on the behalf of the tower defenders. What you stated above is very true! So I have made some more revisions to my map.

+++Tower Defenders+++
Tower defenders will get to chose what race they want. Everyone will have the same towers,except for 1. One of the towers will be race specific. This tower has no attack.

****New objectives for defenders!!
The defenders main goal will not be to hold off untill heroes get there or to hold off untill they beat so many waves of monsters. One of the new objectives is for the defenders to keep their unique,race specific tower alive. Each defender will have his/her own sets of monster paths. In other words you wont be getting kill by other people leaking. The Second objective comes into play after the heroes have completed their journey. Then the objective will to defeat the evil bad guy!

Defenders will have a builder that not only builds towers but will act like a hero. The unit will have 2-3 spells and a decent attack and be able to build towers. Also, the defenders will be allowed to purchase units to help their unique tower stay alive, 5 is the unit limit I will set.

+++Monster Updates+++
Each round of my td will consist of 3 waves. The first wave, monsters will do what they normally do in every td, try to run to a specific region. The second wave will be on a seek and destroy mission. They will follow the path not attacking, untill they reach the defenders unique tower. Then they will attack the unique tower and anything in its way. The third wave is undecided but will probably be the same as the first wave. Each round,wave 2, will have different types of units. For example: Round 1 Wave 2 consists of 4 archers,2 huntresses,1 keeper of the groves and a tree tenant. Of course thats just an example and will not actually be used in the game

One question you may have is, what happens when monsters from wave 1 and wave 3 make it to your unique tower? Those monsters who make it to your tower will be transported to a different part of the map, and used in the final stages of the map.

I would really appreciate it if you would tell me what you think of these idea's and concepts. Does this sound like a fun map? If anyone is interested in anything about my map just pm me.
