YobGuls File Converter Troubles....

Ok I've got Yobguls File Converter running... I hit the "Load Model" button. I go through my file tree and find an .MDX file. I hit "Open." Instantly I get an error: "Unknown file format!"

What file format is it expecting? I thought it was made specifically to deal with .MDX and .MDL files...?

yes u are correct about it being used for .mdx and .mdl but it can only be used to convert .mdl into .mdx

Oh... ://// so what do you use to convert .MDX to .MDL?

(EDIT) and why does every thread I find about this tell me to use Yobguls File Converter to convert from .MDX to .MDL to edit the model?

jensiou I would have to disagree with you on the point of it only being able to convert .mdl to .mdx. I have conveted .mdx to .mdl numerous times in my model editing. Ligature, what patch of WC3 are you running? If it is the newest patch the file converter won't work right. What you need to do is install a separate installation of WC3 RoC and then delete the .mpq.

ChoboMapper
or just make sure you have it installed in a seperate folder with these files in it..

I tried ChoboMapper's files... No luck, I'm afraid.

I also reinstalled RoC and tried it that way, but it still won't work! Maybe my Blizzard CD is pre-patched?

I don't know what to do here... Does anyone have any other suggestions?

YobGul's converter is buggy. When you open it up, it defaults to MDX->MDL, but the search parameters (i.e., the files it displays in the selection window) are *.MDL. Simply toggle the search to MDX files and it should load them just fine.

The other problem is that once you convert an MDX, you can't convert back to an MDL UNTIL you shut down the converter and reopen it. Otherwise, you'll get an error and the converter crashes. The opposite is also true; if you convert an MDL, you'll need to close and reopen it to start converting MDXes.

Annoying, but the program otherwise works well, so I'll put up with it.

Well it's not that it's defaulting to *.mdl... It definitely says *.mdx... and it's definitely an .mdx file I'm trying to load. Good idea though.

Amin0, might you have done something that would make a difference in the way the file converter works? I can't extract your .rar by the way, my WinRAR doesn't like it for some reason! (I can open it, but it throws errors when I try extracting files.) My software apparently hates me this week...

Thanks for bearing with me, guys, I appreciate all the help!

I don't think i did something special, i just put it in a directory alone whit the nessecary dll's and exe's. those files are from the original cd, no patch.

when i redownload the file it just works fine, i use version 3.20 of winrar
