Need Input On a Simple Idea

In my current work-in-progress you will have a small fleet of ships at your command and be able to control the crew on each of your boat's decks. From the deck of the ship you can make repairs to your ship. What I want to know is if you all think it would be best for each individual ship to have its own repair supplies or if I should just make it use lumber so that all the ships would be drawing from one large supply.

hmm, it depends on how deep your getting. If you have cool stuff like volllys of cannon fire and reloadinf periods and things like that that are very detailed it would fit for each ship to have its own stock. But if its more of a faster paced game with some cool details like the crew, then you should use the single pool. From what it sounds like your getting in some deep stragy so I recomaned the each ship has its own supplies idea.

Alright, well if I make it so each ship has it's own stock I will use mana for the ships rather than using custom value + leaderboard.

Another way that you can store values is have a unit named suplys with no attack/movement and it has an inventory. You can store values of the differnt materials on ship inside the item life of items inside this unit. Doing it like that will also have a max amount of life so it will limit it if you want it to.

The max item life is 999999 so you dont need to worry about running out of room. If you use all but the first number using strings you will ensure that the item doesnt get destroyed for being at 0 life, and you can use that firest number for clasifycation checks for the type of suppy. You can give the unit an ability that will do a check for the amount of supplys inside the unit.

This is kind of complex so if you dont need that much detail you should not do it, if however you are interested and are confused on what exactly i am talking about i can try to help.

Well, this depends, in my opinion having to "Mirco" and keep track of your ship's wood supply would add to the intensitivity of battle, thus having to relocate wood and get more for different ships. BUT, having more then 6 ships with this would be total chaos and madness. So if you Do have more then 6 ships, then go with the simple "one supply for all", idea.

Have you ever played admiral sea battles I think it was called?
How big is your small fleet going to be? Maybe you could have each ships repair reserves as mana or displayed in a multiboard, it would probably be best if you could auto cast the ability for ships to self repair themselves.

Each of the four players can have up to 7 ships total.

i'd say use the mana, but is the repair going to be like an ability?

There are two repair abilities, one used by a lesser sailor unit that repairs 100 to a ships hull and one used by a master engineer that repairs 300. The abilities have to be used by the unit while aboard a ship's deck which is an ofset location on the map. Each of the 7 different ships has their own "deck".

ooh i c, so like you got your ships, and in the corner of the map you have your "deck" cool idea, i'd suggest maybe haveing a "wooden" ground texture for the deck, this map dont sound too bad!

Hmm... Have you played Battleship Command? It's fairly new on B.net. It's GREAT great drawback is that it uses loop waits and other roll-round waits. After you've been playing for 10 min or so the map begins to become laggy, and I don't mean like laggy sometimes but an overall laggness with slow reactions and a hardworking "middle-classed" computer as my own. Even thougth I love the map, the above has made me stop playing it...

I'm looking forward to this map, extremly intresting concept :).

Anyway, try the map, I attached it. You might pick something up.
