Heh, the floods of TD maps ARE taking players away from original maps, so I understand you kinda... But really, any kind of UMS map is hard to create if you haven't made anything before. TD is no exception, even though it's relatively easy to make, second only to Hero Arena. =P If you want to begin making maps, play around with the trigger system first. Make a small project for yourself, like "Can I get a Hero who goes to this region to gain an item" or stuff of that caliber and see if you can do it. If you can do a bunch of these, you'll be well on your way. For TDs, see if you can get these triggers done: - Create Units for Neutral Hostile - Order Units for Neutral Hostile to move somewhere - Trigger a trigger when all Neutral Hostile units have died - Create a Leaderboard and track kills Because creating the towers and units themselves is the easy part... triggering separates the crap from the mediocre, and the mediocre from the superb. But you can't make a map just like that, remember. It takes time and effort. I'd encourage you to do any sort of map as your first project, but I also ask that you try to do something original, that no one has ever done. That way we get more variety on B.net... (hmm... i wonder how like other TF maps my TF map is... it's the only one i've seen that's anything like HL/Quake TF...) |

I am very glad to be part of a forum that does NOT support suckass Tower Defense maps. So perhaps the lamers will be scared away, but I think this just makes the forums a better place for the rest of us. |

Guest | WTF is wrong with you people? Flaming someone for liking a certain style of map? Speaking of lame, that's so inarguably lame it's not even funny. It's like bashing someone for liking Coke over Pepsi, or for wearing Calvin Klein over Levi's. Or hey, let's call it like we see it folks, it's like hating someone for being black and not white. Pure ignorant bigotry. So what if you don't like TD maps! Who cares? He didn't ask for people to come into his thread who hate TD maps and bash him, did he? Did his topic read: 'Tower Defense Map Haters'? I got War 3 when it first came out what, 2 months ago now? I played my first TD map a few days ago. Just for kicks. Guess what? It was FUN. I enjoyed it. I wonder what that makes me.... You said it yourself, Z. If there is a huge wave of something, is it possible it's because people LIKE it, and are having FUN with it? And that they might possibly want to make their own version of it? And that makes them a "sissy noob"? You are so retarded to say crap like that, and only indicate your ignorance and bigotry. Get a life, and stop trashing someone else's. Take care. |

I totally agree. I have no problem with people who like TD, but I do mind people asking "how do I make a TD map" without making any previous effort. You can't just make a TD out of the blue without practice and knowing what you're doing. Since TD maps are simple to make, it's a first step to getting people to make better more complicated and original maps. I made a TD at some point, never released it but damn it was funny =D. (ever try making circles of power move?) It's good practice too. By the way, I think these forums neither support TD maps nor are against them. As far as I know, this is a forum for MAP CREATION, which includes all maps... |

I just wanted to say that I admire you for this. Takes a real man to apologize (hope you're not a girl - heh). No hard feelings on my part, if you cared. Take care. |
