Ok ive been toying around with a map idea and its like this.

You command a Army that has one general
You can only select the general of that specific army none of the units under his command, the units that the general commands always follow him around.
The number of people in your army are determined by the level of your general times 2 (ex lvl 1 = 2 warriors, lvl 2 = 4 warriors and so one)
there are 10 levels each player will have one general specific to there country with specific skills from the climate/region there from. You can have a total of 3 generals, if all are at lvl 10 that would be 60 warriors under your control (might change to 2 generals) the goal of the game is to conquer the world while progressing your civilization and protecting it, each civilization worships a god that gives there civilization special godpowers (Zues Like god - Thunder Spell, Hades - Spirit entrapment spell, Aphrodite - Charm Spell)

So tell me if this would be a good map to play and should i progress in the ideas?

All comments and crits welcome

I had an idea like this years ago while i still played starcraft... got started on it but never got anywhere.

There are two main problems with this concept.

1: Its not particularly engaging. You control one unit. You really have to add the full spread of command abilities to the general (attack here, retreat to here, follow me, attack in this direction, use special ability on target)

2: Wc3 doesn't handle that many units very well. You have a general, you'd expect him to head an ARMY, and wc3 doesnt handle massive amounts of units very well.

actually there is a way I could make the units respond to commands to a certain extent. You could use certain skills and triggers to command them like have the general cast scout and then when time runs out on the bird or press a generate command the units go and either to what was told of them like Patrol, Attack, or Move and has a normal ability called recall where it orders all the units wherever they are to walk back to the general

and maybe it dosent have to be a general but a capitan or something of the sort only reason i said general was because i couldnt think of anything else but here more of what im thinking of,

this could be like a RPG in some ways.

there are going to be various neutral towns, and towns only your force can enter not enemies (unless an enemy conquers the town) you can hire one HERO that you can control he himself cannot control any warriors but he has abilities that help your troops. You can build civilizations so you can upgrade your troops weapons and armors, but in the begining you all start off with a small village with your ONE AND ONLY town hall that can be upgraded to a keep and a castle.

This is what i was thinking on how to recruit troops for specific generals, he walks up to the barrack and like any mercenary building he can select units to hire and whatnot the units he can hire are all based on his current civilizations technology, when he hires a troop the troop is automaticly assigned to stay around him by using the aloc and chaos abilities (i think those are it) the units will follow the hero and obey the commands he orders and when givin another they will do that then when the task is completed return directly to the general
if someone can come up with a better way to control the troops please specify

If you use aloc they'll be invince. I'd suggest doing one of two things: Each time the general hires a unit add it to a unit group, every now and then check to see if those units are outside of XXX distance from the general, if they are order them to move back (or instantly move them back) Or give the general abilities which will order the units to move around...(return to him, move to this point, attack this unit etc)

Or I suppose you could do it a third way and try to design an AI for the units, I dunno how that'd work 'cause I haven't done it...(or if it's even possible)

i thought aloc just made them unselectable not unattackable someone made a way to have diablo 2 like minions thats what i want the troops to act like
