How do i make a custom icon?

I had a look around the place for an answer but didn't find one so heres my question.
I want to make a custom icon out of a picture i have. But i imported it into the WE as a .gif file and it doesn't show up on the Imported list in the object editor where u change the Game Interface Icon. Does it have to be a specific size or anything or a different type of picture thing? Its 72x72 right now.

try making it a blp...you'll need to convert from gif to blp to do it

if you go to the downloading section of wc3 campaigns you can actually download custom items for your very own use :ggani: . If the tutorial doesn't help you at any rate I think 1 or 2 of them are self extracting, though it is pretty easy to do it yourself.

P.S. I think Yogulmaster's converter can convert GIF to BIP (and visa versa) but I really have no idea (never had to use it in that way)
