i remeber hearing people talking about how this would be a bad idea cause bnet would have a bunch of crappy fill up your hard disk with map file maps. I'm curious though, does this mean we can do something like import maps into the main map, and call them up from within the map itself? I'm a little confused, if anyone understands the nature of this function could you please explain what it does? |

I do not know, but i hope however that if it is possible, that it is confined to units, or else wannabe hackers are rubbing their hands in glee. May i purpose a test? |

It only works for offline maps. |

This is with the new patch... Well, I would suggest that you clear it out a lot...anyway, maps will HAVE to have a special trigger that detects it is a hero from that map: otherwise you could make a map, save a kick *** hero from another map with the same filename, then load it on a different map...I'm not sure though how chache works... |

Hopefully they just use something like Dakkan's form. For those of you that don't know his save function, it spits out a password (based on whatever your saving), and when you type that password in the next time it 'recreates' your hero. I'm designing one based of his idea, that will be really hard to decode (because it uses several functions based on your name). Since it doesn't actually 'save' anything, except for the password you write down on your own, it works perfectly with B.net Dakkan has a downloadable save function somewhere on here. You can take a look at it if you want. |

That explains what I did wrong in the orc campaign... This is like the one in the blizzard campaigns. |

if blizz was worried about stupid people making maps that could save horrendous amounts of stuff on ur computer, why didn't they just have something that pops up and says "do you wish to cache XYZ taking up ABC kbs" |

Good idea... |

If i actually read correctly the things on the patch it said the blizzard only triggers are no longer blizzard only, i dont think they added any extra triggers for this. Basicially i think you can now do thinks like the orc campaign. [edit] just incase you didnt read this right, you cant save multiplayer. But you can go back and forwards between maps with nothing changing on them in single player now (ie the orc campaign). |

Did you people even read what I said? It ONLY WORKS FOR OFFLINE MAPS. No one is going to be filling up your HD at random with tons of save files unless you download the map from a website and run it. Even then the save functions can only save a limited number of times. Also; There IS NO SAVE CHARACTER function. There's save game, and store in game cache. (I did a search for save, and char...neither one had save char). If you want to save a character you need to use a password or an external program. |

OK, let's clear something up: EXTERNAL PROGRAMS ARE SUICIDE!!!! They will result in your banning!!! |
| 12-18-2003, 12:41 PM | #12 |
Technically not. All a save program would have to be is a chat-bot. These are frowned upon but allowed by Blzzard. |
| 12-18-2003, 04:07 PM | #13 |
They won't go out of their way to ban people who use them, but someone them are 'seen' by b.net to be hacks...so, banned CD key coming up. |

save programs are seen as chat bots, not hacks. They dont ban for bots. |
