Idea for more realistic maps, and probably some random questions

I was thinking that most buildings, when compared to units, seem unrealistically small. I notice it ALL THE TIME, and I've had this idea in my head for awhile but it's not worth doing if there's going to be tons of problems. So if you can think of any, please reply.

Anyway, my idea is to either scale down all units (or scale up all structures) on the map to make city zones and certain structures more realistic. I've thought of a several ways to accomplish this, like just changing scaling value in the editor to make things easy - or using chaos abilities and making one copy of each hero in the editor and just changing them back and forth when entering/leaving a town, using a small scale version while inside the town. Changing camera distance could probably compensate for the size difference to maintain the same perspective view throughout the game.

Only a few questions I can think of right now..

1. Do chaos abilities get erased from a unit immediately after they are given the ability? I've not had trouble with this before, but I've only messed around with them - so if I want to make a serious map I don't want to find out until it's too late that constantly switching back and forth screws something up.

2. Do scaled down units generate less lag? If you scaled down everything on the map, you could essentially include a lot more content in the map... And possibly make a similar representation of a larger map on a smaller map - like scaling everthing on a 128/128 map by 50% and putting them on a 64/64 map.

3. Does this idea suck? If you have any comments please bash or praise it as you see fit. Ideas are welcome!

And if I think of anything else I'll ask.

Hmmm. I think you're on to something.

The Units in WarCraft are large so that we can better see them and organize them. Imagine playing a WC3 where the units are the size of stick figures. Pure bedlam. As for the buildings, to remain proportionally correct they'd have to be larger than the commander's window.

These aside, that's a damn good idea. Scale the buildings up just a little and shrink the heroes when they enter town. Or do what they did in the Orc campaign.
