This is for the new guys.. it'll give you some tips, some pointers..etc..etc.. (for you old bums like magic and mag and all you...enjoy the sounds and all but this isn't directed at you...) Ok, first off.. most of you know me, but for those who don't I'm a voice talent here in NYC (talent is going too far, but hey..it's on my card).. and I do commercial and sometimes FUN work.. but most of the time us Voice guys go into a booth and say something like "buy a car for low low prices now!" about 150 times. :( Anyway.. When I record I record at a studio and it comes out very nice and professional, but I recorded these lines with a friend on a everyday microphone on a computer.. I'll go through how I did each one so you know that doing a voice is more than just talking into a microphone and praying that it sounds good. What you need to do is repeatedly do the line til you find the SWEET spot of your mic, which picks up not static, no pops, no echo..nothing.. usually it'll take upwards of an hour or so to get a good maps worth of lines done if you want them sounding good... and becuase I promised, I figure examples are in order.. here are some things I've been working on...I'm not the best at describing how to do voices..but I hope it helps...some...maybe...maybe I'm full of it .emote_sweat Gur'zol Taunt - From Fury of Kadesh Character- This of course is the lead character from Fury of Kadesh Why he's done this way- I guess becuase he's a crotchity old sorcerer who I didn't want to sound like any of the others.. How I did it- Hmm I guess why thought process going into this was Emperor Palpatine from star wars. He's got the perfect old evil guy voice.. If you can make a low pitched scratchy sound in the back of your throat, then this voice shouldn't be all that hard to do. Kazhaaaaaam the Goblin - From Natures Call: Return of the Dragon Character- The main goblin here from the campaign Why he's done this way- he's a goblin, unless there's a goblin barry white they all sound similar How I did it- Well, find the highest voice you can do, and then scratch it up like the old mans voice..but just keep it at that high level. I think the best way to think of it is Michael Jackson with a soar throat. Metamorphus the Spider - From Natures Call: Return of the Dragon Character- Badass transforming spider Why he's done this way- Originally done by the wonderfully talented Lani at Audio Gods, I guess this is just the way it was done.. How I did it- This is the easiest voice to get if you can stretch out your voice and work with it. Remeber inspector gadget...all this is is Dr. Claw. Go deep down your throat, almost to your gut and if you can feel the reverb down in your stomach you got it. Now this is a voice done by a friend of mine (you know here as Lara Croft from Tomb Raider games).. anyway...enjoy Storm Bringer -From Fury of Kadesh Character- not quite sure...she just did them Why she's done this way - we were told, sultry...but firm.. so we figured whats better than brits..they sound sexy as hell, but authorative. How she did it- um...she basically just used her normal voice, but sexed it up...*laughs* oh well..I hope this helped..or at least let ya listen to some voices.. comments..questions.. |

Very nice, indeed. But...I'm baffled. You didn't use some sort of program to do Metamorpus's voice, I'm astonished. I would try doing as you said right now, but my voice is gone due to a battered throat >.< Anyways, you very talented, thats a no-brainer. I would love to hear some more of your friend and your works. |
