Okay i put together my tank commanders map, protected it, but when i try to host it on Bnet it says "Game not found". I checked the unprotected map and that works fine so its something with the protection. I tried both extrarius's and blackdick's protectors (extprotect and heavy locker). Both give the same result across a variation of settings (heavy locker caused wc3 to craft whenever i selected the map) My question is, is this a known issue? Is there some script i should avoid? The problem arose when i deleted a few imported models from the imports list, so perhaps its because of that. I'm willing to send the map to anyone who thinks they can help, but im not prepared to post it unprotected here. |

Yeah, that's that Obfuscate Code Bug that BlackDick's been trying to fix. I believe Dataangel had a work-around for it, but I don't remember it fully. He said that if he added one more line in the script of the map, that it wouldn't have this problem. When it says it's not found, that's because the map you're trying to use is corrupt. You may also notice that when picking it in the "Custom Games" menu, that the forces (list of slots and whatnot) don't change to fit that map....you'll see. When it crashes WC3 I'm pretty sure that's when ExtProtect fails to protect it properly. ExtProtect also uses obfuscate, you see. Just use BlackDick's Heavy Locker but keep setting the Obfuscate level of protection to a different level until it works. That's what I do. You can also look around the last few pages of the Heavy Locker thread in the Warcraft Editing Tools forum. I believe that's where Dataangel posted his work-around. Well, here you go, I found what dataangel said: Quote:
Hope this helps! :D |

Can't you protect a map by simply importing a blank .blp file onto it? If so, isn't that a lot simpler than using map protectors? Well Jessie...*Hint* 5 Points at store for a different title *Hint* |

You can lock a map by importing a wtg file, but using a protector gives much better protection because it can make the code harder to read so even manual editing is difficult. If you send me the map that you're getting the problem with (unprotected) at my extprotect address (follow link in my sig if you don't have the email addr), I'll look at it and fix whatever problem. Before you do, though, make sure you're using the latest version of ExtProtect because I always fix bugs as soon as I get a map demonstrating them. |

Well i worked a little more on the map and the problem is gone... not sure if i still have a copy of the glitched map. I'll find it if you want it though, to improve your program. |

If you can find a copy that doesn't work on the latest version of extprotect, I'd definitely like to have it. I've had a few people report the problem, but I have yet to have anybody send me a map that demonstrates the bug =-/ I used to have it on old versions, but the latest version fixed all the bugs I've experienced myself or had people help me debug. |

i know the best way, first after your finished your game, make a backup copy, this is A MUST, then import a BLANK text file, like notepad or something, SET THE CUSTOM PATH TO war3map.wtg save your map, and the next time you try to open it, it will say Could not open file Trigger data missing or invalid |

That is NOT the best way to protect a map for several reasons. Basically, it leaves a LOT of information around that doesn't need to be left, and that info makes editing it much easier. The kinds of the things that get left are unit positions, doodad locations, camera setups, regions, and a list of all imported files (if any are imported, it will tell you the name of every file in the mpq which makes figuring out what they are much easier). A few simple steps will let you get everything but the GUI trigger back, and even that can be reconstructed fairly easily. It also leaves the jass script intact, which again makes editing much easier since you can just open up the file and change whatever you want. If good protection was a simple as replacing one file, do you really think anybody would have spent their time making more complex protection programs? Anyways, I've found and fixed the problem in ExtProtect since he sent me a map demonstrating the error. |
