I made a new race a little while back (without having to change starting units), the High Elves in place of the Humans on the map 'Divide and Conquer' (melee) that I'm planning to release on this site once it's finished. I may need some people to test it out for second opinions and/or advice on balance etc. PM me if you're interested. But if anyone could tell me how to make a hero created with a standard unit as a base spawn only one, I'd really appreciate it... Complete specs: (really, really long, so go to the bathroom and get a cup of tea before reading) The High Elves are very well-balanced (I added a bit :) ). All they need is siege, but they make up for it with their defence. Every non-standard tower, including the earth/sky-fury towers, guard towers and the towers from the gauntlet SP mission including the Death Tower (immensly powerful, but you pay dearly for what you get...). I'm thinking of giving their Dragon Hawks a siege attack as secondary, because there are no more units that are truly High Elven that I could add (except maybe a modified Glaive Thrower or Catapult (would have to be jacked from RoC)). Specs: (note that units in the plural form are standard and units in the singular form are Heroes) Town Hall and 5 Peasants to begin with. Town Hall builds Workers, Emissaries (low-end healer), Chaplains (high-end healer), Peasants and Captains (medium melee unit). Peasants build Altars of Lords, Grain Warehouses (40 food, again you pay for what you get), Town Halls and Arcane Sanctums. Workers build High Elven Barracks, High Elven Farms (15 food), Sun Springs (based off NE Moon Wells, no food, but 700 mana for restoration) and low-end towers. High Elven Barracks trains Swordsmen , Archers, Dragon Hawks, Priests and Sorceresses (with Arcane Sanctum) Spell Breakers (with Arcane Sanctum) and Hydromancers (summoner unit, with Arcane Observatory) Altar of Lords trains Holy Knight (warrior Hero), Dark Knight (ultimate Hero/unit, requires Arcane everything, at least two Death Towers and a Castle), Archmage, Blood Mage, Engineers (advanced worker unit) and Blood Elf Lieutenants (have aura which gives +1 attack to nearby units) Engineers build Arcane Observatories, High Elven Shipyards, and high-end towers. High Elven Shipyards build modified Night Elven Ships. Arcane Observatories are the ultimate defencive structure, having a mroe powerful version of Starfall called Meteor Shower, though it taked a long time to get enough mana to cast it, build ASAP and it'll be ready by mid-game (for one casting), but it can research an upgrade which cuts this time by 75 percent (.02 to .08 recovery, having to reach 20 to cast). It can also use Reveal and other variants of it, and can research Magic Sentry. The Dark Knight can, with some research at the Observatory, call upon Meteo, an immensely powerful Starfall which will almost certainly kill all foes that come near it. He is also permanently invisible. He is the Zeratul (Dark Templar hero from SC) of WC3. You may think that my race is too 'cheap' for play by this description, but once you play as them you'll find that they are very hard indeed, as you pay through the nose for everything, and that they have precious few melee fighters and what they do have are outclassed by most other races' med-high-end melee units. They also cost more food than a normal melee unit, making them less plentiful as well, they'll be enough to be a barrier between their melee and your spellcasters, but that's all you'll need. They have the most powerful tech tree by at least 250 percent, but also the most expensive by minimum 400 percent. And you'll see why I made Dark Knights so good once you see the cost of a Castle, an Observatory, two Death Towers, the Arcane Research for Meteo and, of course, for the Dark Knight himself. All together I'm guessing about 2000 minimum gold and 1400 minimum lumber for the D-Knight and research for him alone. The tech tree in all costing probably 6000-8000 gold and 4000-7000 lumber (these may not be completely accurate). You could, of course, get the Dark Knight for free if you wanted to wait unitl T4 tech for your first hero (theres an extra tier here, by resources, tech order and requirements, not Castle size). But if you don't intend on getting a D-Knight you can skip T4 entirely, as that's all it does. Essentially the Protoss of WC3. |
