Right, i read the FAQ here in this forum, and thought the specific part about changing the Starfall spell was pretty cool. So i Extracted the Unit/Units\NightElfAbilityFunc.txt file, and looked it up. Well now i have two problems, lets start with the first. I found the part with the Starfall spell, and the Targetart. And then i saw i said .mdl at the end of the file. But i have a prog called MPQ Viewer, and it can only see the .mdx and .blp files, and WinMPQ cant see .mdl files either. The thing is that i want to change the Targetart to Targetart=Doodads\Cinematic\Lightningbolt\Lightningbolt.xxx but i cant find a Lightningbolt.mdl. Is it even possible changing the Targetart to a Doodad ? The second one. Ok lets say that i added the line Targetart=Doodads\Cinematic\Lightningbolt\Lightningbolt.mdl, and i save the .txt file in Warcraft3/unit/NightElfAbilityFunc.txt. I go in to WE, and then i have the problem.. where am i supposed to import the .txt file ?, i tried in the Unit Editor, but it cant import .txt files. Appreciate your help, sorry for typos :( |

Okay, the thing is that .mdl and .mdx fiels are almost the same... .mdl's are text versions of .mdx's. For some reason, in WE, they always use the file extention .mdl, even though the model is in .mdx form... so just take the model you want, and then put the .mdl extention on it instead of .mdx. I hope I haven't confused you yet :p Okay, now for importing... if you have RoC, get TFT (hehehe seriously). Open WinMPQ or whatever you have, open the map you want to import the file into, and then import it under the EXACT file extention as in war3.mpq (in your case, Units\NightElf\NightElfAbilityFunc.txt). You have to do this after each time you save your map. If you have TFT (and if you don't, than buy it!) then just go into the Import Manager and import the file, and then double-click, check the box that says Use Custom Path, and put in the fiel path. However, if you have TFT, it's a lot easier jsut to use the Buff Editor (under object editor), find the Starfall buff, and change the target art. Hope that helps! |
