I read and follow American comics. And when I read some of the American Manga comics(webcomics, published comics, etc), there are times when I cannot stop feeling I could draw better than some of them if I trained for two years. But never in my life I told myself I could do better than any of the professional Japanese/Korean artists. Not only the art, but also their perception of the world works in a whole different level. Artists who work on game illustrations are, for the lack of better word, supreme artists. Their arts are important too, but above all else, their unique style is the prime factor. The flavor the artists brings with the design determines the entire atmosphere of the game. Game art design in America tends to be very technical, while Asian game art design is more impractical and elaborate. And that's what distinguishes the two. American games that are stylish tends to be a bit simplified, closer to reality. But in Japanese games you see characters with chains with no practical use, a bit more like a fashion show. But for me to really get into the fantasy world, I need to see something I have not seen before to believe that world exists, like LotR movies. One picture from these artists tends to say more than I could do in millions of pages... Now I'm depressed... |

maybe it's just you. In my life the only art I have looked at and was amazed with was impressionist art, abstract art. I can look at some of those pictures and spend long time in another worlds. As for anime, it's like a sweet gun, chew it and spit it out. Yes, art is beautiful, everything is glowing and has a style, but to call it something extrodaniry is a little overboard |

I am not quite sure what impressionist art and abstract art are. But obviously I was not comparing them to Renoir or Van Gogh, duh~ I mean when was the last time you heard of anime art being sold for 100 million dollars? But I think you misunderstood my point. I was never talking about anime being the supreme form of art. I dislike the catagorization of any art form. I just pointed out those artists were better than good... And not just the art, but their creative side. I was talking about the design of the art... I was talking about how far they are from generic character design. Let me give you an example. To me the picture below is beyond what I could imagine. I would never be able to comeup with this sort of image. I would never be able to express this sort of image. I would never be able to paint this sort of image. And yes, it's all about me and what I cannot do. ![]() |

And I feel sad when I see these pictures as well... I suck... badly... but my drawings are for my own fun... but it would be for my own soul's enrichment if I drew like that. icbm1987 |

thanx for clearing your point studio. That picture reminds me of something I don't want to say here cause I'll get banned :). But I looked at it for 20 seconds, no more. maybe it comes with age, 5 years ago I would look at it and go crazy But If you really love it and want to achieve the same, YOU WILL studio, it just takes hard work, there's a lot of detail. And let me tell you something, if you want to create something similar, you can, you just have to imagine this place in your head and with time, putting it down on paper, at the end, when you have all the elements you just finalize it. by the way, I was really impressed with this guy's character designs, http://www.naimoka.com/index.php?rub=nomura sweetness but this guy,Hyung-Tae Kim, his stuff is very beatiful, but that's where it stops. I usually get tired of his style, I can look at one pic, all the rest are the same. |

Hehe I like Hyung Tae Kim and his work as well. In fact his line art isn't really that special, it's his colors that makes his picture look awesome ^^ |
