I'm planning on doing an RPG map with a 3rd person camera. Should I make high-poly models of my main characters, or would that tax the CPU too much? |

Depends on how much you will see at the time on the screen. Ofcourse you can always make them a little higher. 1000 - 2000 if it isn't going to be many units on screen at the same time. |

according to an article in this book I got with hints and tips from game making professionals (including Blizzard) it said that the way you should work out polycounts is that the main character can have the highest as they will be on the screen all the time then more important villains who there won't be loads on the screen at one time can have the next highest amount and then finally things like grunts, the baddies who will be on the screen the most should have the lowest. Hopw that helps :D |
