Just wondeting if someone could give me a basic tutorial about custom icons. If you could answer these questions:
1)What size (ex. 100 pixels x 100 pixels) does the image have to be
2)What type of file must it be saved as (ex. .blp .tga)
3)Where do you place the Custom Icon for import
4)Once you import it, do you need change the custom path

:mtk: If you could help me, I would really appreciate it and give you credit in my Campaign. :gsmile: :mtk:

i''ve been using 32x32 and 64x64 for icons which seems to work well, saving them in warcraftiii root directory as *.tga, ( or could convert to blp(compress)) importing with import manager, then changing path to just the file name.

not sure if this is correct, but it's worked well for me so far.

Rampager
1) icons are 64x64 pixels.
2) .tga and .blp are both acceptable, however keep to .blp to decrease file size.
3) you can place the icon anywhere for import, as long as you can get to it using the import manager, u are fine.
4) yes there is a custom path.

for normal icons

ReplaceableTextures\CommandButtons\BTNyourfile.blp

for disabled icons

ReplaceableTextures\CommandButtonsDISABLED\DISBTNyourfile.blp

for passive icons

ReplaceableTextures\CommandButtonsPASSIVE\PASBTNyourfile.blp

enjoy.

In my experience, BLPs don't actually reduce the size of the map. The image itself will be smaller, but remeber that w3m and w3x files are really mpq archives, and mpqs compress the files inside them.

A tga inside an mpg is smaller than a blp inside an mpq if the tga has a lot of solid-color areas (like many icons have lots of black on them). I haven't tested images like photos where every pixel is a different color, but I'd guess blp is better for those.

Hey sorry for butting in on this thread but .blp doesnt work, it shows up blank when I play the map with the custon icon in it. The path is CORRECT and I tried restarting my computer 2 times and re-opening/closing the map 2 times too. I dont know whats wrong if I do it in .tga it will be bigger and I dont like that! Whats the problem?

okay.... If you are using Photoshop to edit your images then I can help, send me a PM. If you are using any other paint program, I don't know how they use alpha channels so I can't help you with them.
