Here is The Ruins Saga Demo, adapted into a story by me, KillR. Note that this story is not exactly the same as the demo. THE RUINS SAGA OFFICIAL PROLOGUE CAMPAIGNS CHAPTER 1: THE EXCAVATION 19:20 Hours Deployment: -0:10 UTA Airbase in Vedsten, Pontaga Eleven soldiers and two pilots. That was everything aboard the Trans-Copter. Four of them given the order to protect the unarmed pilots, and the remaining seven given a special mission. Sergeant Connors approached the Trans-Copter and walked up the ramp extruding from its side. Connors looked around the small transport vehicle. Given the call-sign “Omega 4, it was a standard military vehicle. A large rectangular room was the body of the vehicle. It had storage compartments on the walls and under the deck plates. There was a large latch opposite of the entrance ramp, which was used to allow the ramp to be on either side of the Trans-Copter. At the front end of the cargo hold was a small doorway leading into the cockpit. “We need to make sure you understand the mission exactly, so I will quickly go over the whole thing. There is an illegal Soviet Excavation taking place twenty-seven klicks south of the Pontaga – Soviet Union border. We need to find out what they are looking for, so we need you, Blade, to talk with their leader. Intelligence shows that the leader, Kaz, can be found in a small building in the middle of the excavation site. Also, we don't want to start a war unless necessary, so only fire in retaliation. And one last thing, intelligence shows that there are twelve ancient artifacts that have been located at the dig site. These are protected by UTA law, so recover them. Any questions? “No, sir, no! shouted all eleven soldiers. “Good. Zack, I need to speak to you. The pilot got up out and walked down the ramp with Connors. “I wonder where they went off to said one of the Special Operatives. Lieutenant Blade of the 9th IMC Ghost Division said, “Probably discussing some emergency procedures, seeing as he's never flown in enemy territory. Zack walked back up the ramp. “Alright, its time to go. Everyone sure they have everything they need? “Sir, yes, sir! “Alright. He went into the cockpit and sealed the door. He pulled the release on the ramp, and it started to retract. The latch was then sealed on the door. 20:00 Hours Deployment: +0:30 Carday Forest 27 Klicks South of Pontaga Border The flight was relatively uneventful. Zack keyed the Trans-Copter intercom. “Alright Ghosts! We're touching down in five. Brace for immediate assault by Soviet Forces. The two Special Operatives began opening the latch. “You heard the man. We'll check on the area, then you get off. Get yourself into the forest ASAP, said one of them. “Alright, so we wait. Got it. Just give the signal and we're outta here, said Blade. The latch opened with a loud clang as the ramp fell from its socket. One of the Special Operatives said, “Checking Perimeter. Two Soviet soldiers walked up to the ramp, guns drawn. The Special Operatives opened fire, and within seconds, both were dead and obscured by the long grass. “Area secure. Clear for touch down. Go! Blade got up and ran down the ramp, all six of his fellow Ghosts following. He heard a ping on his mic. “Blade, said Zack. “There's some heavy resistance. About half a dozen heavily armed troops down there. You'll have to take them out before we can take-off. Blade turned around and saw the latch closed, now invisible among the rest of the ship. He looked around at the surrounding terrain. Heavy grass grew everywhere. A thick patch of trees partly obscured a small building in front of him; that's where Kaz would be found. He also saw movement among the troops round it. “Seems we got some company. The Ghosts walked alongside the Trans-Copter and saw a small group of Soviet troops. “Look, the UTA is here! Contact HQ and tell them to be on high alert! said one of them, right before a chaingun tore through his neck. “Blade, we cannot allow them to alert the base! Hurry, kill the two runners, we'll take care of these guys! “Affirmative. Blade ran through the hail of bullets; both pistol and chaingun bullets, and saw the two runners. He fired off several shots, but only nailed one runner. All of a sudden, a group of soldiers sprang out of their cover and opened fire. Blade aimed at the last runner and squeezed off one well placed round. Blade turned to the Soviet soldiers only to watch as a hail of fire tore through them. “Thanks, said Blade. The Ghosts gave a quick acknowledgement. “Look over there! shouted a Ghost as he motioned at the ground near the tree. The Ghost walked over and found a corpse. Near him was a small satchel. He picked it up and gave it to Blade. “Yup, it's an Artifact. Here, put this in your suit's compartment. The Ghost followed the order. The Ghosts walked into a dark path. “This path leads right into the dig site. It'll retain our element of surprise, but will potentially take us a longer time. Blade looked back at the Trans-Copter to see it begin to lift off. “Alright, now move out! D +0:55 Soviet Excavation Site The company walked into the clearing. Blade heard a distress ping on his mic, and opened the team frequency to hear the incoming transmission. “Blade! We are under fire, repeat, under fire! Zack seemed rather distressed. “Omega 4!?! Repeat, Omega 4! A new, rather young voice came on the channel. “Blade, this is Private First Class Mark Jakes, reporting from Trans-Copter callsign Omega 4. Do you read? “Jakes, can you tell me what is going on!?! “The IMCN dropship I was in was shot down by Soviet Forces. Your Trans-Copter found me, but Soviet Forces are now threatening us. Hurry up, Blade! Talk to the Soviet Officer and get those artifacts! This ship isn't gonna hold out much longer. We're about to land on the other side of the dig site. Find us there. This is Private Jakes aboard Trans-Copter Omega 4, over and out. “He's right, Lieutenant. We need to hurry. “Acknowledged. Team, lets go, on the double! They walked through the clearing to the edge of a large pit. He saw dozens of Soviet troops preparing an ambush. The pit was roughly twenty meters deep. The far end had a series of scaffolds, and the close end has a ramp. Blade keyed his mic. “Alright, Epsilon one and two, take the end near the forest. Epsilon three and four, you take the ramp, and Epsilon five and six, you take the end near the scaffolds. Lie low until I drop down in the pit, then open fire. Squeeze out of the remains of your clips, reload, and then jump down. Affirmative? He received six acknowledgements as the troops got into position. Blade crouched and walked over to the scaffolds. He walked another meter, then swung himself over to hold the edge. He moved down until a cliff abruptly ended his path. He took out a grenade, released the pin, and jumped down. He threw it into a group of soldiers and took out his combat knife. Three soldiers went flying thirty meters in the air. Blade charged at the nearest soldier and slit his throat. A hail of bullets came from across the pit's edge. In unison, the six ghosts jumped down, each with a combat knife in hand. The last of the Soviet soldiers then went down, all from slit throats. Blade walked over to a dead soldier. He was reaching for a crate when a bullet struck him in the chest early during combat. Blade opened it and found another Artifact. He handed it to a Ghost. Blade began reloading his chaingun when a single shot rang out over the pit. A bullet flew right into the exposed part of Blade's armor and penetrated his forearm. He shouted in pain as the Ghosts fired at the assailant. Epsilon three, the designated Team Medic, walked up to Blade. He removed the armor from the area of the wound and patched it up. “You alright? “Yeah I'm fine. Just a little pain. Lets keep moving. The Ghosts had already proceeded, recovered another artifact from a compartment in an obelisk, and waited at the Command Center. “Alright, I have a plan. Vladimir looked around the hall. There were three doors. One leading to Kaz's office, and two more leading outside. The outside doors each had two soldiers stationed on either side of them. Vladimir was on the door leading to the Command Base. He checked his gun. A long nine millimeter pistol with a half full clip. “Hey, can I borrow some ammo? he said to his partner. He handed over a pair of clips. He reloaded his pistol, now content. He turned on the laser sight, but to no avail. “Hey, do you have a spare laser sight? “Ask them. They have a bunch. His partner said, motion to the other door. “Hey, do either of you have a laser sight? he said. One of them was about to reply when the door behind them opened and crushed both of them. Blood splattered across the walls. A pistol rolled across the floor, and Vladimir picked it up. He aimed at the door with both weapons, but it appeared that there was no one there. “What the… A pair of shots rang out and both guards dropped dead. Kaz looked up. He heard what he thought was the sound of assault weapons. “What was that? One of his guards said, “I have no clue. Kaz looked down at his desk. A map of the Mountain and its vault sat there. He was about to return to work when the doors were flung open and both guards were crushed. Kaz stood up, weapon in hand, staring in disbelief at the large bloodstains covering his walls. Out of nowhere, seven IMC soldiers materialized around his desk. One of them stood in front of his desk, gun aimed at his head. “What is the meaning of this? shouted Kaz. “I ask the questions here! Now tell me, what is this excavation for? “I'll tell you all I know! President Geterachov and General Morinidov recently crushed Reformed Soviet Resistance. They got information from their leader of an ancient weapon of mass destruction. I was reluctant to come here, but they forced me. My team uncovered a vault in the mountain, but we were unable to open it. We received reports of attacks near the vault, and set out to attack the intruders. “You troops fired at us before we could do anything! “What? I should tell you something… Suddenly, his voice grew louder, darker, and less humanlike. “FOOL! I KNEW SOMEBODY AS WEAK MINDED AS YOU WOULD END UP LIKE THIS! I WILL DESTROY THE INTRUDERS, AND THEN YOU, KAZ! “Fall back and open fire! A hail of bullets brought down the enraged Kaz. “Before we continue, we have to scour this building for more artifacts. Blade's company sealed the door into the main dig site and then began searching. They checked every desk, closet and wall, and ended up with two more artifacts. “Get those pistols; we might need them later. Each of the Ghosts received two pistols and several clips, all from a weapons locker. They attached them to their armor. “Alright, we're running out of time. We gotta find that vault and get back to the Trans-Copter. With that, the team opened the next door. “A Soviet base. We gotta take this thing out, and quick! The soldier was right. To the right of them was a dock filled with soldiers, boats, and workers. To the front were a series of small buildings and ancient statues. And to the left were a large tower, a tank, and a small mountain with a heavy gate at its side. The seven troops began opening fire, both with their chainguns and the captured pistols. Blade took out an armageddon grenade, a rare but deadly explosive. He pulled the pin and threw it at the dock. About fifteen soldiers and workers went hurling into the air, and a warehouse collapsed on itself by the sheer force of the explosion. Blade took out his chaingun and ran for the tank, firing as he went. A grenade exploded nearby, and he went flying. He landed on the roof of the command center with a loud thud. He got up, and noticed that the tower provided more than fifty soldiers with cover from the IMC assault. With that, he took out two grenades and one armageddon grenade and hurled them at the tower's base. With a deafening roar, the tower came down and crushed a score of soldiers and the tank. A small statue was shattered, and an artifact was throw from a hidden compartment in it. “Get that artifact! he shouted through the team frequency. After a short fifteen minutes, the battle was over. The heavy gate to the small mountain was shattered, and fog began to leave the vault. Dmitry stood at the top of the ramp. He walked over to the ledge overlooking the vault. A sea of highly-adaptive beetles writhed in five separate vaults inside the main hall. “Hey Sergei, is the gate open yet? “No, they're still working on it. As soon as he said that, that massive gate leading back into the headquarters broke open. A bunch of shots rang out, and Sergei fell. “How did the IMC get here? Dmitry ran for the obelisk on the far side of the room. The soldiers came up the ramp, and in a single hail of bullets, and obelisk fell, the artifact was uncovered, and Dmitry was in plain sight. He ran for the ledge, avoiding the bullets that tore through his flesh, and leaped over the wall into the hall. Blade looked down. The soldier had broken nearly all the bones in his body. He crawled his way to the end of the hall, where Blade could no long see him. After the artifact from the obelisk was uncovered, Blade walked over to a lever. He pulled it, and the door to the main vault opened. The Ghosts then walked into the newly opened hall. The second they entered, the gates closed. Five metal gates, each from a separate vault, had opened. Hundreds of beetles poured out of each vault, and ran for the Ghosts. A small amount went for Dmitry, who had triggered it by use of a lever. They came closer to him and the lever. Within seconds, the beetles had killed him. The Ghosts began to fire at the new army. The beetles went down easily, but were still high in number. A beetle attached itself to one of the Ghosts, but he responded by cutting its head off with his combat knife. Within minutes, the beetles were all dead. The Ghosts were all cut up and tired by then, but didn't have much longer to go. In each of the vaults where the beetles were, a corpse was found with an artifact near it. “Hurry, get those artifacts; they're the last ones. Blade watched as one of the soldiers, Epsilon five, began walking for the first vault, blood trailing behind him. He crouched and picked up the artifact, and proceeded to conceal it. Now that they had all twelve artifacts, they had to do was to return to the Trans-Copter, which was an easy task. They opened the gate and took out two more workers. They walked through a relatively quiet forest. After taking out four soldiers, they reached a small clearing. Near a small crater were blockades, and near them were the combined corpses of Soviet and IMC soldiers. The walked past the wreckage and saw the Trans-Copter again. The front plates of the Trans-Copter were open and heat escaped rapidly. Two major pipes on the side were torn open, and fire blasted out of them every few seconds. Near the ramp were more blockades and smoke smudges. The four Special Operatives stood at the opening, and Private Jakes stood at the back. There was a dent in the deck plates, and steam poured out of a broken pipe. “Private Jakes. Its good to see your not dead. Hold on a sec. Hey Pilot! “Reading, Blade. “Play the victory track. Heavy metal blasted out of the intercom; a favorite song of Blade's. “Now Jakes, explain to me what happened here. “I will, just as soon as we leave this area. With that, the soldiers sealed the latch, and the Trans-Copter began its flight back to Vedsten. Vladimir got up. He had suffered a shot to the chest that served only to temporarily knock him out. He had trouble walking, but made his way into the main vault. He went past corpses of his own people, and even past Dmitry's. He looked around, and found one of the beetles nearly crushed Dmitry. He pulled it out, and stuffed it into a special containment crate. He then dragged it back to the command center. He picked up a radio, and attempted to contact the Caretov Weapons Testing Facility. “Kozlov, I have the sample you requested. Can you get a helicopter to get me back to the fort? No, everyone here is dead except me. Ten minutes? Alright, I'll be in the command center. To Be Continued… |
