Then why do you tell everyone trying to act big "no matter how good or bad your protection application is fact remains you cannot protect am map from me." |
| 01-05-2004, 11:41 AM | #6 |
sorry darky but telling people how to unprotect a map is totally wrong, i protect my maps because i dont want some retarded knobhead stealing all the icons, skins and/or models i put a sh!tload of effort into and then say that they are his own. We protect maps for a REASON to stop people from stealing our credit and hard work, which at the end of the day we dont want to happen hence the fact map protectors were made! |

That page makes you look like a moron. You seem to think that creators of map protectors don't know anything about protection and that you're better than us because you do. I already know everything you say on your page and more about protection, and I know that it is possible to entirely reverse the protection. I've even considered making an unprotector my own use(I often edit maps when they've been abandoned and still have a few 'bugs' like shift being sell. Of course I always leave the original authors name and add that I edited it), but decided it really isn't worth it since I can read obfuscated jass just fine. Most people can't however, so my protector does keep 99% of the people out of a map since most people that would steal credit (the reason for my protector) are n00bs that have no idea how to edit a protected map. Most people that are good enough to figure it out are also respectful of creators and don't steal credit. Also, you can get the source for my protector to see exactly how it works, so that isn't really a secret. Want to make your PHP script open source so I can try to break it? =-P |

And thats why i'm gonna use his map protector... stupid n00bz Besides i offer all help on maps and my sources at my website |

okay Darky... No. |

Sorry Darky, but I have to agree with everybody else here. The main reason people protect thier maps is so stupid noobs with no skill will open the map, rig it, then probably put their name on it, and redistribute it on bnet. A classic example is the Bunker Wars from starcraft, or some defence maps. Protection is good for that reason, it stops bnet from having a million and 1 versions of the same exact map with suddle changes on it. Don't get me wrong though, when people email me asking how I did things, I am more than happy to share the code with them. |

Well Darky, I protect my maps not to avoid people reading my triggers, I do it because there is a lot of morons who edit good maps and add cheat codes / screw the maps. (See Gladiators or (insert)maul) That's why I keep releasing demo maps for every single thing my arena has. Also I don't think those scripts may help against an obfuscated script file. And I am closing this thread because it may lead into flames and other stuff that I don't want to see in this forums. Edit: I am leaving the url because it is an interesting note about how good is our protection |
