Just a simple question. How do you make a sound file smaller? I don't want the tip you dont need sound but I got this sound thats around 1 mb and wanted to make it smaller. Anyways how? Do I change the file to something else or what? Thx |

You CAN lower the size of the sound file, but it will drastically decrease quality. On how to compress it, don't ask me, I don't know. But I do know that the quality will suffer and in-game, it might not even be worth it. |

Maybe lowering it 500 to get it faster dl for people dling my map. I wouldn't mind the bad quality as long its a sound/song from the video game. If someone can help me compress a sound or tell me how I would be more greatful. |

Well the main thing is, is it a MP3? If it isnt, a WAV file is about 5 times a big. |

AHHHH. I made a .wav file on like a sound thats a minute which is about 1 mb. No wonder my map for Turret IIYII took people forever to dl. Thx. I'm going to add a mp3 file to my new map Megaman Zero Survival. Thx. Heres the song I'm going to add. If you want to listen to it =). |

Many sound tools, like Creative WaveStudio (which comes with soundblasters) can edit MP3s. Your 2 meg mp3 is WAY too big for any practical purposes, though - and I just tried to open it and save as a lower quality with WaveStudio, and can't - it's already at 128 kbs, which is as low as they go. Edit down the MP3 to be smaller, perhaps? It seems to repeat itself; just cut out the second half of the song, and that's a meg's worth of savings right there. |

In general, custom music isn't worth it and often drives people nuts. For other sounds, they can be okay, but the most important thing about a Battle.net map is gameplay. |

Good to see you back, 35! And yeah, ditto. As jazzy and synthoguitarry as the song is, I doubt its presence will really be what people remember most about your map. |

Thanks, its good to be back. BTW, Heavylocker should compress sound files. Try that. |

I don't have that program. Anyway you can cut in half and attach it to this thread? I got the game play set up. Just want to add some music from a megaman game. |

Do you have Sound Forge? That is an excellent sound editing program. Also, a company is busy working away at making a compression that is even better than mp3, don't know when they will finish though. |
