Stickies and those notes in the top of the forums and stuff, all things that are important are (I think) not read all that often, as example the FAQ. As for myself, I never read stickies, unless it was a thread I used to visit before it was stickied. My brother is a admin on one forum and a mod on an other (2 heavely visited forums) and people there hardly ever read the stickies. I could be mistaking but I think that's the case here too. My brother and other admins/mods now post in a regular (non-sticky) thread the big news and stuff with a very noticeble thread name (something embarresing or something dumb as example, or something like 'IMPORTANT PLEASE HELP' or something that is noticeble) Anwyay, I was wondering how many people read stickies... |

Of course people don't. But they are stickied so they are easy to find if you want to read them. |

Wouldn't that be the use of the search option? |

Hmmm... I guess that's true... Though if I'm not mistaking the people are more familiar with the boards don't use the search option 'that' much either, isn't that right? (I do though) But what about those "very important" things? (that are above the stickies and where alone admins/mods can post. I as well, don't read those, even though they are the most important, even if you color it read and make it 3 times as big, it still doesn't catch my attention (it's true :bgrun: ) so what about the people who are lesser experienced with the boards? Would they read it? |

I don't know why, but I barely read the stickies.. and a good example that people don't read stickies is everyone is asking questions about the point system, where the store is, etc..when there's a FAQ right above their thread..lol |

maybe after someone joins the site it should take them to the FAQ...that way they can read it and get information about the site...maybe that'll cut down on the useless threads about points and such... |

... or they would just skip it (like i would) and go straight to wherever they want to go... it just wouldn't work |

Yes, I think that would happen then as well. I as well, would do that. |

1. Set a timer for looking at the page to like 3 minutes. If they close before then, registration is not completed. 2. Make a quiz that they must pass after reading the FAQ to become registered! :ggani: --- I don't like either idea, but if you really wanted to force em. :P |

It is an effective way, but it won't make the forum very populair... I think... |

bringing this up, why dont we have the search button on the top bar (with home, forum, downloads, tutorials etc.)? every other forum i know which uses vb (and most that don't) have a search button there. at the moment the only way to search is the main page, 'search this fourm' and the leftcolumn (which takes up too much space) |

Well, I don't know how to answer that... It sounds like a good idea though. I know no board that has the search option on a more noticeble place and I am a member of quite some boards. |

I do when it's new, or about rule. If it's about a contest I don't, usually. I think people should read them, because that's why they're stickied. |

The placement of the search button might cause some of the new guys trouble finding it (like me when i was newly-regiestered). Which may result in some questions that could be answered by saerchin a few seconds. but that is just my opnion. |
