Guest | Hi, I tried searching around to find out how to make custom icons and how to rename skills but couldn't find out how. I want to rename a hero spell and change it's icon. Thanks. |

Extract (race)ablitystrings.txt and (race)abilityfunc.txt and modify them, then import them into your map after you are done with it. |

Guest | I read the MPQ2K tutorial on this site, it tells you how to extract files. I picked my .W3M but no .txt files came out, just stuff like this: war3map.doo war3map.j war3map.mmp war3map.shd war3map.w3c war3map.w3e war3map.w3i war3map.w3r war3map.w3u war3map.wct war3map.wtg war3map.wts war3mapMap.tga war3mapPath.tga war3mapUnits.doo and im assuming those two text files let me rename the spell (dont know where those files are though), but what if I drew my own icon for a spell and wanted that for the hero, how could I do that? Thanks again. |

Not to fear. You were simply looking in the wrong spot. All the files are in "War3.mpq". And there are a s*** load of them. Happy Hunting. |

Guest | Oh, If I change something from the main War3.mpq that means the other people (multiplayer map) need the same .MPQ right? |

Import the txt file into your map. |

Well, you have to extract the file you want to change from "War3.mpq". Make the changes, and then import the file into your map. This is where I have a little bug. Any changes that I make and import only take effect the second time the map is loaded. For instance, I change the position of a hero ability. Import that to my map. Then the first time I play the map, no changes, restart the map and everything is hunky dorry. I'm sure there is a way around this, just nobody has told me yet. I have like two posts out there somewhere and nobody has responded to them. But yeah, don't change the .mpq. Simply export the file to some new directory. Make your changes, then follow instructions found in Cookie's skinning tutorial. Just instead of importing skins, you're importing .txts and .slks and stuff. Cookie's Tutorial Well, that is if you don't know how to import the files. You may, I just wasn't sure. ![]() ----EDIT---- Hmmm, it's seems that you beat me to the post there MasterSlowPoke. Damn, now don't I look like a horses a**. Meh. |
