I've imported an assortment of files in .jpg format to try and make them into buttons, to no avail. Then, I converted them to .blp files and uploaded them then, to no avail as well. How do I correctly upload a picture and use it as an icon? All help is greatly appreciated.

I dont think jpgs have alpha channels. Get any buttom from the blp and save it as a tga. Then copy and paste your jpg button onto the tga one. Save it then convert the tga to a blp. Always save it as tga not jpeg.

I actually tried converting them all to .tga's before you replied; they just won't appear as in-game icons for the map. Okay, let me put it this way: I download a set of pictures from this website, that were all in .jpg form. I've tried looking at tutorials to convert them correctly, etc., etc.. but nothing seems to work.

Your first post is a little hard to understan; what, exactly, are you trying to do, and what is the problem?

Okay, okay.. I've downloaded a set of .jpg's from this site, and I'm trying to change them into a set of icons. How do I go about doing this?

I dealt with the same problem as you last week when I was learning to import files, reading some Faqs, I noticed that I was just doing it wrong... so this is how i always do it and it works for me.

Just convert them to .tga, and then convert them to .blp using the "Warcraft III Image Extractor". Then Add
all the .blp pictures in the War3.mpq file, (that is in the folder where you installed Warcraft III) you will need a "WinMPQ" or "TECHMPQ" or "MPQ2K" to add files to the War3.mpq file. I suggest you to use WinMPQ because it is easier to use.

Once you have added all the .blp files into the War3.mpq file, import them into your map using the "The Frozen Throne World Editor's Import Manger", make sure you set the custom path of every imported file to be "Exactly" the same path that they have in the War3.mpq file. Then you will have custom icons...

Example:

1. You download the file: elf.jpg...
2. Using photoshop, save it as elf.jpg, (32 bit, no compression)
3. Using the "Warcraft III Image Extractor" save it as: elf.blp
4. Open WinMPQ, from the file menu select "open" and then browse you HD for the War3.mpq file.
5. Click the "Add" word that appears in the top menu
6. Browse your HD and find your files, select them and load them.
7. In the next dialog you have to put the folder (path) were you want to save it. You can write this: "test\" (whitout the commas), that way your file will be saved as " test\elf.blp " (whitout the commas) in the War3.mpq file.
8. Select the Compact button on the top menu.
9. When WinMPQ finishes compacting, close it.
10. go to The world editor, load the import manager.
11. load your elf.blp file.
12. Double click the file you just imported. Check the "custom path" option.
13. set the file path as: " test\elf.blp " (whitout the commas).
14. Set you imported icon to any unit, spell, or anything you want to.
15. Test your map, the icon should appear in-game.

(Note> Make a backup of your War3.mpq file first, just in case WinMPQ freezes and your War3.mpq file gets corrupted.. I have warned you).

(Note 2: Sorry for my awful grammar, I'm not american)
