Dungeon Keeper 2 Campaign

I was wondering if anyone would be interested in making a DK2 campaign. It would consist of the following
  • 2 new armies - Good and Evil*
  • New terrain, mainly interior
  • 20+ new units
  • 20 new spells and abilities
  • ~7 new levels, with cut scenes at the start and end of each
  • Some bonus custom game maps
  • Ambitious new scripts
  • If possible every unit having levels and experience
*names may change

It's a pretty ambitious idea, I don't know whether it'll take off emote_confused. I can take care of skinning, mapping and ideas. So the project needs a modeler, a good skinner, and a trigger person, and testers. It'd be helpful if you've played DK2, but that's not essential.

Well I can model but not animate so I can make things like the portal. Also I would like to be a tester. If you are wondering I do have DK1, Deeper dungeons and DK2.

Thats a really good idea!
There are a few things that i think are possible that might help make it more Dungeon keeper like, but they will also make it alot harder. First off, i'd work with building setup to make large, flat, walk-overable (better word?) buildings,(to get rooms) also make a portal like building randomly generate the units, like the portals in DK. Do you have any setup in mind for the digging of rooms, or the digging for gold?

Actually the more i think about this the better it looks in my mind, and the more you can do with it. Think about the number of creatures you could add just using the Wc3 models (example: i'd love to have an army of murlocs!). There is lots of room for improvement of Dk Doors and traps, and they are easy to do, they are just buildings!

I'd love to be involved with this no matter what you do, i can't really do much, other then model a bit, but i'd still like to help!

P.S. I don't know how you would change the stuff like the room/buildings, digging, gold digging, but i think it would be worth finding a way to do it.

Would passable be a better word? emote_confused Yeah the rooms/digging is going to be ambitious but it would be great.

Making traps shouldn't be to much trouble, neither should be the portal.
I'm not sure how to get the whole "the larger the room, the more monsters you attract", but I'm thinking about buildings to be built one at a time (I'm not sure how to do the click-and-drag buildings). I think (to begin with anyway) that Imps/Dwarves will have to make the rooms/buildings.

For the spells the Keeper casts I think that having an invisible hero that can be selected my clicking on the "Spell" button.

I can think of the following WC3 stuff that would only need reskinning:
High Elf archer - High Elf!! emote_sweat
Wisp - Fairy?
Blight - Prison floor
Necromancer or Preist - Warlock
Kobold - Imp?
Lightening Lizard - Salamander?
Captain - Dark Knight
Skeleton - Skeleton!! emote_sweat
Dwarf - Mountain King
Arthas with Frostmourne - Princes, King and Lords

Can't think of any more for now...

I really think you should just consider turning this into a full conversion and get the details kinked out of the setup stuff first, that stuff dosen't need any model editing, just some jass, trigger and other advanced editing.

On the building ideas, i've got a couple of ideas. The first one isn't as good as i orginally thought but, you could make a center building for each room and give them blight/creep stuff that spreads to fill the room. The problem is i don't know if you can trigger to "blight size" or if you can give more skins for each room to the blight.
Also you could just make a imp build lots of little rooms that go together, or in the case of bigger rooms like the Temple and Combat arena, a larger base. Like the training room, lair, graveyard etc. are just 1x1 base that you put together to make rooms, with the temple, arena with 3x3 or 4x4 bases. I don't know how you can get a trigger to count them as a room, but you can just set the portal to only let you have those units when you get those rooms, like the tech tree in normal wc3

I'm also going to try and make a Bile Demon model (They are the coolest monsters ever!) but it will take me awhile, supposed to be making some WW2 models.

I would make a full conversion, but I lack the experience and skill. I've been trying rooms in different ways, but I'm busy with school and stuff so I haven't made a huge amount of progress.

I have made a map that is good for testing rooms and digging - it's got destroyable rocks everywhere and indestructible ones every so often. There are lots of gold mines - all about 1000 gold. I'm using this for rooms. I'll put it up for download if you want.

No rush with the Bile Demon model! It'll be quite easy to do the fart spells - we can make it so it's basically immolation with the disease cloud model.

I'll try and get some screenshots up.

Err thanks for the support, but try not to spam. If there's anything REALLY important I missed out please say so.

I'm not sure how the picking up and dropping is going to work - some kind of teleportaion would work I guess...

yeah, it might be awhile before i start the model anyway......
I think you could do a area teleport with a very low cooldown, speed, and a small area and give it to the invisble hero that has the keeper spells.

I think you should definately make it into a TC, you've already done more work then alot of projects out there, ansd you seem to be really interested in it, and besides, there's only been like 1 or 2 TC that have ever gotten finished on this site, so they take awhile.

Might just be a good idea to make a map first, and then work on making a total conversion later, that might also help to get Wc3 host you. I guess that works, just concentrate on a map with a few new models and the DK like stuff (digging, traps, creature portal). Can't say i'll be much help with that, beyond a model or 2 (and some ideas), cause i don't even have TFT yet....

I'm working on skins and the map. I haven't started work on triggers and scripting, because I'm useless with that, so I'm going to do some reading up on it and practice a bit :ggani:.
First screenshot will either be up tomorrow (Sunday), or (more likely) next weekend - I'm busy with school and my life's a bit crazy at the moment :(.
I am interested in this project - DK2 was a great game and I think WC3's graphics etc will modernise DK2. EA bought and trashed Bullfrog, DK3 won't be made :bangH:.

Update 25-01-04: First screenshots next weekend - I have a bad cold and a mountain of homework.

I think a map is a good start, and i think we'd need alot more people for a Total conversion. I do think it's a good idea though. But you should focus on the map right now, if only 1 total conversion has been completed on this site, only a handfull of (good)maps have been completed either.

On a side note, i really hate E.A. aswell. Not only did they suck up bullfrog as you mentioned, but the engulfed Westwood aswell, and as a consiquence Generals sucked really bad. I was on the Westwood mailing list and got stuff from them, and i got a thing for generals pretty early, before they had been engulfed, and decided that i would buy it when it came out, and so i did, and it was pretty bad. The graphics weren't even as good as they had claimed and the game play was horrible. Anyway... thats the end of my rant against EA

Yeah more people are needed, hopefully when the fist screen shots are up people will get more interested. I was off school today, I used the time constructively to work on the map :ggani:. By the weekend I hope to have the map 60% done, now it's 50% aesthetically and 20% scripted. Also I hope to have the Rogue done - I'm attaching a knife to a peasant and when he's stolen gold he'll get the peasant's gold bag on his back :gsmile:.

That's it for now, more ideas welcome.

Yeah EA sucks, they bought Westwood and for a while it was okay (RA2) but Generals was crap. Bullfrog rocked as well DK games and the "theme" games. I hope they don't buy Blizzard 0_o.

I'm still ill so I worked on skins today I didn't feel like mapping. I'm about 5% done with the Warlock skin - my computer's is almost as ill as I am :nono:.
I also made some spells, but they weren't that great :bgrun:. Still hoping to get first map and screenshots up by Sunday.

Yeah EA sucks, the only companies they haven't bought that I can think of are Edios, Codemasters, Activision, Raven and Blizzard
