add abilities to hero

Don't rush to yell at me, that it's not impossible. Just hear me out.

1. My hero doesn't have any skills at starts, but I want him to be able to learn either unit abilites or hero skills somehow. Please help, maybe there's ways around this, I dont know. But don't suggest to change hero's, I can't allow that in my map.

2. What happens to the hero skill points if the hero doesn't have any skills to learn? Is there a way to still have the skill points(you know that red cross thing with numbers) without adding some skill?

hmm, that's it for now, thanx in advance

1. Hero skill adding is as should be obvious by now. Impossible. Unit abilities you can give him with triggers. You can use a workaround method with using dummy placeholders to research spells and then give unit spells that you set up based on a selection the hero made.

2. If he has no skill points to spend on them, then he will not have the ability to chose spells or have any skill points. A hero can only have skill points to the amount of total researchable points possible (Ie if you hero has 5 3 level spells and he can gain 20 levels he will only gain 15 skill points and will lose the ability to chose skills after level 15). If you want the red cross thing you can make a custom spell that at that spells location. I would suggest replenish as your ability of choice as it allows you to move when you click it.

Well if you can dig up my old synergies map it does this.

Create placeholder skill for the hero. (I like healing ward aura as its overwritable by a working version of it and has no icon). Then at the creation of the map with a dialog or however you let the hero select a spell to use for that placeholder. You assign that to a variable. Then when ever he researches that spell you give him the ability. Then for each additional point with an upgrade you level up that ability.
and there you go.

ok ok, so you mean, I would have to prestore all the possible skills on a hero, while they will be visible, but not yet researched. this really don't sound good. unless I misunderstood you again.

by the way, do you know how the makers of map "spellcraft" did it?

but did I understood you correctly? you can only have so much skills as skill types in placeholders? can you replace these placeholders with other skills types? I'm confused. can you make it so they will be not seen and could not be researched?

I looked at your synergies map. emote_sweat I'm even more confused
