I was thinking of an idea for a rpg where you can control a hero, but it has no attack, and you have to press the A button to make it play a attack animation, and damage any unit in front of it. Also, it will be in cinematic mode almost all the time, and you have to use the arrow keys to move it around. It will have several hotkeyed spells for attack, defend, and to hail characters. How does this sound? Post, also, please. I would like some more descriptive thoughts on what you think, or what the ups and downs would be. Thanks! |

Wierd, I was thinking of the same idea since yesterday, when seeing my brother play Sword of Mana. Anyway, if you could do it, then try it on some small map, and if it works good, then do it. |

I think it's an original idea, but I can't see myself wanting to play it out of fun. The triggers would have to be extremely smooth and extremely easy to use. Plus, enemy units coming from all directions would be a PAIN against, but I guess with multiple players, it could be quite fun. Then again, it would work more on LAN parties because people on B.net would call the person with the least kills a noob. Oh and yah, you gotta have a hero class that is strictly team supporting. Good idea, but needs smooth and glitchless triggers! |

Sounds like it'd play a bit like Gauntlet. Could be fun, if done well - you might want to make the heroes ranged (like in Gauntlet) so that they could shoot forward and keep monsters down. |

yeah sounds good if you do it right.... however, do you know how to do each of these things? |

I recently tried to do a project identical to this, I had a lot of problems with getting the unit to move in straight line, and going backwards was hell, I never got the backwards function to work. My advice would be to use backwards to adjust something else, like crouching, jumping, or doing some other tactical form of movement that doesn't involve moving backwards. |

I kind of made this, although never made a map from it because Im so ****ing lazy. Here: http://www.wc3campaigns.com/forums/a...&postid=255742 But in my opinion this is better for an RPG: http://www.wc3campaigns.com/forums/a...&postid=293264 |

Aristotle: I could make backwards something like Defend, for blocking and strategic fighting. Mandrilx: Yes, I think I know how to do most. If not, I can always find out. Pesmerga: O.O Thanks. You made me think about typing chat messages--players wouldn't be able to in cinematic mode, which I thought about doing. But I didn't want them to be able to control their character manually. Also, I can't see myself playing it out of fun either...unless it was really, really, good... However, alot of the things in the game will use hotkeys. Do you know how to hide buttons so players cant use them manually? Thanks for all of the feedback! |
