Guest | Today i tried to extract the AbilityData.slk from my war3.mpq, and then i've changed it, just the Data 1, data 2, and data 3 of the Keeper Of the Grove - Force Of Nature, supposedly, when i see the description, it is how much treants is produced for each level of the spell, i've changed it, when i save it, some popups came out, saying, somekind of SYLK symbolic thingie, and something about keeping the data in this format, well, when i select no, of course, it didn't change, when i selected ok, the thing is saved, and then WinMPQ says that the file has been changed, and prompt me to refresh the list, okay, i've done it, and then i tried playing with the Changes, well, something WEIRD happens, when i clicked on the Warcraft III.exe, and run it, the screen goes black, and then return to the desktop, the game didn't run, weird, and then i tried restarting, the same thing happened, when i replace the war3.mpq with the un-modified backup it works, can someone tell me how to actually mod it? is there something i need to do? like compressing or such? |

The popup that appeared was a pompt asking if you wanted to convert the .SLK to a Excel 97 format. You must select NO. Your changes will still be saved, but you have to select a path to somewhere on your computer. Then, you must use WinMPQ to add the .SLK back into the .MPQ. Remember that any changes to the .MPQ that occur while World Edit is running will be ignored. Hope that helped! |

Why do you modify war3.mpq. I have no solution for your actual problem, but I'd suggest you to not modify war3.mpq. If you have any patch (current version 1.02a) installed then another file (War3Patch.mpq) will appear in you WC3 folder. Modify this one (make a backup first). The advantage is that this file is significantly smaller so WinMPQ loads/modifies it faster. And you can make a backup faster and restoring the backup would also be faster. |

Guest | When you save in excel, read the pop up that comes up. You want to KEEP it in SLKY format. You DONT want to convert it to the latest version of excel format. Try opening the file, not chageing anyting, and then saving it. Ig it crashes your game, then you know you arnt saving it correctly. |

Guest | Hi! I seem to have the same problem with .slk files in .mpq. I use WinMpq to open war3patch.mpq and edit an .slk file. EVEN without modifying anything, Excel asks me to convert the file. According to you guys, i say no, and it prompts me again to input a filename. The file IS created, but when i try to open it, i have errors (cannot read sector 100, 103, 106, 109). Any help would be EXTREMELY appreciated. I'm using Excel 2000-SR1. |

Guest | The most important thing instead of just clicking YES or NO is actually reading what you are doing. On my version of Excel clicking YES does this: "To keep this format, which leaves out any incompatible features, click Yes" so that is what I want to do. |

Guest | I tried this on THREE different machines. They all do the same errors. But all machines run Office 2000 SR-1. Maybe Office 97 works better? Anyone? |

Guest | no, you didn't understand it, i AM ABLE TO EDIT AND COPY SPELLS BEFORE, NOW USING THE SAME METHOD, AFTER INSTALLING THE PATCH, i can't, but nevermind, i figured it out myself, it was a stupid mistake, i just knew we had to delete the former files before putting the new ones if we don't want an error ://// |

Guest | Tell us all the steps you are doing in detail so we can see where something might be going wrong. If you arnt already, try first extracting the file to your desktop or somewhere, close winmpq, edit it, save it, and then try adding it back to the mpq file. |

Guest | I'll tell you what i tried. - Open Winmpq - Open file war3patch.mpq - double-click on file abilitydata.slk (for example) - it opens in Excel - i do nothing in it and click on save as - Excel asks me to keep the features or not - both answers (yes or no) will give me the same result : cannot read sector 100,103,106 and 109 when i try to reopen the same file. I also tried this : - Open Winmpq - Open file war3patch.mpq - Drag the file abilitydata.slk on desktop - close winmpq - double-click .slk file on desktop - do a save-as in Excel - same error I tried it with 3 different PCs with 3 different Excel versions! Can't believe it's not working with any... Thanks guys for any ideas... |

Whats your WinMPQ version? Make sure you have v1.54 and the latest version of MPQControl (I think its 1.60). If you have these already, I don't know at the moment what to do. |
