How to become a great spell editor?

Firstoff, this is not a guide to becoming a really good spell editor. It is more of a request for that guide!

Hey, im no spell expert, in fact Im far from it. All I know about spell editing I know from the tutorials on the net, most of these tell you the basics pretty well ( eg, changing spell duration, damage, duration, icons etc ).
Problem is, this limits me to making spells which are too similar to existing spells. I wouldnt even call this making spells, its more like ripping them off.

Im impressed by spells which I see in maps such as Tides of Blood and the ones made by people in the Spell makers thread, those are very good. I aspire to be able to make spells as good as if not better.
Please tell me, and all the other Noob spell editors where to go from here.

The idea is to be creative rather then ripping off. For example in TOB, the bloodelf has stampede with red water elementals the moon mage guy has a stormbolt with a meteor as a caster. The truly original spells are Triggers or Jass. The Joly Roger Hoist is a trigger spell. I learned by just playing with it. BTW u can spell edit w/roc.
To make a trigger spell you first need a dummy spell, like penguine squeak. Thn u make a trigger that says
Event Unit Begins casting an ability
ability being cast = dummy
then use the actions
