If one were to extract models and textures from the WoW alpha and get them working inside wc3, would one be allowed to mention this on the forums, given that it's probably illegal somehow? |

No. Just No. WoW Alpha is illegal for anyone who blizzard hasn't givin it anyway. Plus the illegals of extracting the files from a game thats not even released yet. Thats double illegal. |

I think it's just one offence, actually. Either one actually does have the alpha, aquired through entirely legal means, and then one is bound by an NDA, or one aquired it in some other fashion (which may or not be illegal, depending on what country you're in, I think. I'm pretty sure it isn't illegal in Sweden, though I admit I'm not sure), in which case editing the things would (probably?) be legal, since one is not bound by a license agreement on account of not actually owning a licence, but posting it *might* be a breech of copyright, depending on the circumstances and what is actually being distributed. I'm not sure about this either. It being illegal to post a screenshot of something aquired and edited through resonably legal means does seem a bit strange, but I guess a case could still be made, and would likely hold, all things considered. Anyway, I meant to ask about the site policy on this, since a lot of copyrighted material is used in this fashion here and there in these forums. If one had been doing things like this for one's own amusement, one might like to show it to people, since the results probably could be quite humorous. |
