Was thinking about the cache problem in multiplayer, and although this isn't for the newbie user and isn't going to terribly help anybody, if just you and a group of a friends want to be able to slowly play through a single RPG map using save points or whatnot try this: Play through your game, use savepoint alt+tab and copy .w3v to a safe location exit game insert .w3v into .w3m next time you play just load map as usual Shouldn't cause desync problems (in theory, haven't tried myself). |

Guest | Definetly interesting. I would like to hear if it works. :D |

Yeah data... i've been thinking about the same thing, but with a program that does the file moving for you. A program that you could include with your map or whatnot... Any 1337 programers here? :P |

Guest | I'm a mediocre programmer, not good enough to do this, but I've been thinking about it, and I was wondering if it would be possible to set up a TSR program, that runs in the tray, or something. Once you save the game, like you said, a savepoint, etc.. then press a hotkey combination(that triggers the TSR)(or, maybe automatically triggers? not sure how that would work..), and it'll do it all automatically for you? At least copy whatever file to a folder, the desktop, etc.. I guess if you're going to use hotkeys, you can even set certain keys to a batch file, and wouldn't need the TSR.. Is this possible, or am I missing something?? I guess the first thing we need to know is what file holds the save, if the file is open even when you're not saving anything, or, if so, if it's possible to copy it while the file is open, etc.. |

mmmmm how bout the user can also specify to which file he/she wanna save the cache into... for example typing in the chatbox : save myhero.w3v or perhaps adding password to prevent others saving into the same filename... then they can load it by typing : load myhero.w3v is this possible ? guess this require super-advanced programming skills eh ? ;) |

Guest | Well, that could be built into the game, I guess, using triggers.. But, you'd still have to copy the file somewhere else, and that part you can't do in the game, unless you use some hack or something. I was thinking more along the lines of making a batch file, putting it on your desktop, and setting shortcut keys to it, Like Ctrl-Shift-S, or something. |

That much works anyway.....it works smoothly. Not a very good replacment for caching, if at all.....but it's all good! :D -Anime Fanatic- |

Guest | Do you have to insert the w3v into the map file(w3m), or can you just copy it into the directory? Maybe after you've started warcraft 3, but before you load the map? Or, after you load the map? I'll try it, just wondered if anyone has already tried it? |

Guest | Where the heck are game caches saved? I can't find it, I'm interested in creating some sort of saving ability for my map. |

Guest | Not sure, but I'm going to do some work on it soon, see if I can find out.. I was thinking about using passwords instead, but I think they'd have to be pretty big. :-P |

Guest | Yeah, I was thinking about possibly using a code to get back, but I honestly think that this can be done. If it DOES save a game cache in multiplayer, which I'm not sure it does, then it will be possible to load the game cache again. I tested something with the Battle.net Cache today and it wasn't in there. |

Guest | I don't think there is in Battle.net, just in LAN, etc.. |

Wondering if anyone ever tried saving the map to something like "..\map.w3v". Or if that doesn't work, maybe save it twice to different files like ..\map1.w3v and ..\map2.w3v. Who knows, maybe blizzard only clears the directory or only keeps track of the 'last created game cache'. Oh, and that 'Load Game' button when you click custom games really bugs me. The interface is there, but it doesn't work. BLAH. |

Load Game works fine for me... I've used it several times with friends while playing a long RPG, or when coming up to a nasty spot. I don't know why it wouldn't work for you... unless you just aren't saving games in multiplayer... |

Oops. I must've confused game cache with the save game option for some reason. |
