adding permant damage?

Im making my own custom stats dex/vit/energy and stuff like that. I can do all of them EXCEPT the one I thought would originaly be the easiest, which is adding damage. I want it so when I click the dialog button, add +1damage to that hero. I cant find any triggers that add damage. I tried (Add ability permante dmg abilty) the item, but it dont do anything at all im not sure why

Before patch 1.13 it was really easy like: Unit Add Item attack bonus (+1) to unit, but now you have to use weaaddar's bonus mod link

I got it with just add item to unit, you wont ever see the item anyway so it works perfect :)
