Moderators, if I am posting in the wrong area please give me a heads up. I got Warcraft 3 a few months ago and have played it almost non stop since then. In addition, I have read many forums and such on unique and different models, skins, ect people have been making and impimenting. I got an interesting idea while reading and seeing some of the custom weapon connections using attachments. I came up with this idea from those posts and sites. I am wondering if it would be possible to make say a standard male, and female for the 4 main races, that has no armor and any such thing. Then, make armor and weapons attachments, that can be used to recreate the origional units, or different combinations of units. I don't know if anyone would be interested in doing something like this or if it is even possible, but its just an idea I had. I am guessing that you would need more then one attack animation, both for ranged an melee. You might want more then one spellcasting animation to allow for varied units. more then one walking animation for possible attachments to mounts. The bigest part of this I believe would be model, and skinning work, and tons of it. Again, I am not a triggerer, jass scripter, modeler, or anything but an idea man with some really neat ideas. I am learning to trigger in WC3 as I was pretty good with SC's trigger system, I should be able to catch on soon enough. I appreciate any feedback, especially that of telling why it can't be done if it can't, and offering assistance if it can. Ciao, Ecu |

Weapons, shields, helmets, boots, gloves and the like can be done. The problem arises when you try to do something like armor. The bodies are distinctly not solid, and goo around as the various bones connected with them do. Attaching armor works for the unanimated stages, but when it starts moving it will intersect with the body. |

Can you add attachment points? Cause then you could make it possible to attach armor in a way that it does not conflict. If not, you could always attach armor in parts... like a chest plate, arm plates, and leg plates Could you not? Can you give attachments multiple animations? Then you might be able to use JASS to change the animation of the attached armor when the unit moves, or stands still. Again, I didn't think this would be very easy, however, I do think that something like this could add a whole new dimension to the game as you could create custom units without needing to know how to model. In addition, this would be invaluable for RPG maps. Thanks for the feedback. ^.^ |

It would work if you could trigger the animations of attachments. However, you cannot. I tried for a very frustratingly long time and never got it to work. Attaching armplates is a must as well, but the problem is more than that. The very body warps as they walk. It isn't a huge amount, but is enough to make the bodt stick through at times. |

I am guessing that even jass cannot change the animation state of a current attachment? I am not too familiar with it as of yet but as I understand, it is the backbone of WC3. Well, you could always have a few copies of the same armor... each with a different animation for the unit. Then you should be able to change the attachment when the unit is moving, standing still, attacking ect.. shouldn't you? |

Oinkerwinkle> in one thing you got wrong about the armor! You see it here: http://www.wc3campaigns.com/forums/s...threadid=44398 Clotaire had shown that it is possible to use also armor changing. But sometimes *as you said* it depends also on the unit! |

Just at the top area shouldn't be a problem. Warcraft models have a bone at the pelvis and at the chest. When the chest rotates, the armor rotates with it and cuts through the midsection. Quote:
Right. Quote:
I actually never thought of that and it sounds like it might work. It would be quite a pain for anyone to pull off, though, seeing how you'd have to match up the animations exactly. It might be an interesting thing to try if I have obscenely huge amounts of free time. |

Neato, at least someone is remotely interested. You seem quite knowledgable, do you know if we can many custom animations for different weapon types and such? I know the modeling will be a pain for this idea, and thats why I figured that I could post it here to find out if anyone likes the idea. Thanks for the input. ^.^ |

Yes, you can have different animation sets for one unit. It's like the demon hunter's two forms. |
