Once again I am limited by my inability to animate models... *sigh*. I've created a large arrow tower based off the boulder tower model, and I am going to release it for download but first it needs to be animated. Basically all it needs is a birth and death animation. It currently works fine ingame as a doodad structure, but if it is to be of any use to anyone it needs those animations. The attached image shows the tower in an example city, from the normal game camera, and compared to various unit heights. Yes I was very bored this evening. If someone knows he/she can do this, I will attach the mdx in my next post. when I release the final animated version I'll include your name as well. |

It does now, at least. Cool model. It's a bit strange though that it's so much wider at the top than at the bottom, makes it so that most of the time you only really see the roof. But it's still nice :) IIRC, making death animations are pretty much no problem, while birth animations take a little bit of work. Come to think of it, I'm not sure how orc buildings work, the little things I've looked at are with human and ud building models ^^ If you put it in the game , will any of the birth-things (the supports and whatever they are) for orc show at all, or are they part of the actual building model? Would some geoset merging do the job? Anyways, my point is: to minimize the effort for the animator, make sure you have all necessary model parts in the model :ggani: |

Using MMad's advice I geoset merged my tower with the barracks model and it worked out rather well. I replaced the first two barracks geosets with my tower's two geosets and it seems to do the birth and death animations properly. However, there is still some work that needs to be done on it. First, the disadvantage of using the barracks model is that it has a rather large base section that doesn't go well with the tower. So that section has to be removed. Second, portions of the birth animation look like they don't belong, so these have to be either removed or modified. Finally, and I'm not sure if this can be done with this model, the flag on top of the tower should wave... in the imaginary game wind. I've attached the forementioned mdx file. If there are any problems with the tower model itself, let me know so I can modify it. Remember I am going to give credit to the animator as well. You know you want your name associated with this "cool model." 8)) |

Hmm... why not merge it with the regular towers animations? |

Merge it with the regular tower! That is simply preposterous! Total lunacy! I would venture to say that is the crazyist thing I've ever heard! But wait . . . it just might be crazy enough to work... Eh... it did, what do you know. Actually it looks much nicer now and has the proper animations in game. The reason I went with the barracks idea first was that the actual roof of my tower is the same as the roof of the barracks. But the watch tower animations work just fine. The only thing is that I had to remove the flag since it didn't work out in the animations, but the tower looks alright with just a pike on top. It is very dangerous to air units now, mwah ha ha ha *cough* ow... I've made you read though my rambling long enough, here is the file. |
