Yes, I have before, used it on an art project/ birthday gift for mah girl... Looks nice sometimes, you want a good consistant distance between lines and angles that the hatching goes.. why?
[edit] : I found it easiest to learn how to shade solid gradations with pencle first, crosshatchin is a pain sometimes if not done right
Yep, I use it in sketches every so often - haven't ever done a finished work with crosshatching, though. I enjoy the rough, textural feeling of it when people do use it, though.
i use it all the time, look at any of my work. i use solid black and hatching and cross-hatching to grade it. it takes some time to get used to, especially if you do it freehand. you have to be able to do solid, parallel lines quickly. its even harder when you learn to use it to represent curves. give it a go though, im sure if you work at it enough, you'll be just fine.;)
ive done some cross-hatching... even though i dont really know how to do it right... but i naturally just sort of scribble lightly all over it to shade, i use different techniques depending on the texture of the thing im drawing, like cross-hatching for clothes, smooth shading for skin
