Robot Wars! An Idea Coming Along...Vote/Post!

This is my idea: You start out with a unit that has an inventory and you have to build up a bot by using certain combinations of items (such as golems from StarCraft) which are all heroes. Items will be things such as: Different Levels of Armor, Types of Wheels (for stronger vehicle bots), Types of AIs, (for stronger robots) and more. You can also "add on" armor, "oil your bot," or "boost the AI" of your bot. In other words, Tome your bot for Intelligence, Agility, or Strength. Right now i am just planning the items. Also I have been thinking about "maintanence" where your bot will slowly lose HP to %10 of their max HP, giving the effect of wear and tear on your bot, where you will have to eventually repair them. There will be random robot looking creeps who spawn around the map, carrying different items for use.

I think this is a pretty good idea, and has potential. However, what golems in StarCraft? They don't have golems, they just have a few robots. Would this be single player, multi, or both? I think if you actually spend time on this, it could be great.

Golems is a game in StarCraft where you get civilians for every 20 kills, and you use these civilians in different combinations on 4 platforms that will spawn different heroes for you to use to your advantage in battle. Its a very addictive madness with some strategy. Ask a StarCraft player about it, they know lots...I haven't played it much, so I wouldn't know. Anyway, added ideas are appreciated! I will update what I have here every now and then.

Oh, ok, I thought you were saying the golem units from StarCraft.

One possibility that might be interesting would be that two players could build one together, if they have shared unit control, to make a bigger, more powerful one. But then you'd have to make sure no one turned off shared units, but I'm sure that's possible with triggers. Also, you should be able to choose different parts to make different heroes, i.e. if you get one combination of pieces, you get one hero, if you get a different combination, you get a different hero.

hrmm I had an idea like thos once...

try making all the weapons item based, like you could buy a spinner head or an axe. Then you had to use the item to attack things. And things like spinners, would be based of, say, slam. They would be really nasty but had a decent casting time.

constant repair is a bore making it 10% dmg is too much make it like 1 or 2% unless the repair is quick

Anyway, I'm thinking of adding Animatrons which would allow me to add more human looking units...I'm only going to add the more gruesome and odd once, such as the no faced creeps or whatever they are called... I will also add cloaking devices which will add the Hide ability to bots...but it will be very expensive ;) Anyway, I'm still brainstorming ideas...once I get out a list of items with their prices and everything, I will release them here...I might even give away the bot combinations to it... only Wc3Campaign people will know them... :D Of course, there will be a couple secret ones I won't give any of you! MINE! MINE I SAY! Sorry, too much chocolate pudding...

GOod idea but instead of Agil,Intel,Strength you should make them other things more mech like.

:infth: Great idea. BTW, is there a golems in WC? If there isn't, someone should make one. Again, cool idea.

I think there is, because I saw one on WC3 on my first few days on Battle.net...

There is already a golems map for wc3, but it never caught on, the maker didn't really know how to do a proper golems map you see...

Well anyways, your idea is really great and could go very far :D. I hope you'll keep doing this, here are my ideas:

Have for your inventory 6 types of items, like this:

Heavy Weapon - You have to initiliaze it to fire by pressing a button (it's an ability thats added and remove when you pickup/drop the item)
Light Weapon - Fires automatically towards the nearest enemy
Chassis - The main body of your mech, controls speed and armor
Wheels/Legs - Customizing your mech into a mobile vehicle versus a walking mech.
Engine - Controls the speed of your mech, and how fast your mech responds to what you tell it to do.
Special - Things like water cooling systems, power shields, etc

Just some ideas, also you should rename strength/agility/intelligence to:

Main Gun Power:
When this goes up your damage goes up too
Cooldown:
When this goes up your speed and reload speed goes up
Shields:
This adds t oyour mana, all units have an auto-ability whic lets you use a "shield" that uses up mana for each damage (3mana:1damage ratio) some special items wuold increase regeneration.

But whats your idea for how the game plays, do you go around and kill each other or what?

Also, get small little special effect models and import them into the map, then have them added/removed onto the mechs to make it look relaistic. Like when you get a new gun, it adds it to his right hand, a new chassis attaches a new helmet and body armor, and new wheels would replace your current legs with new stuff.

For thjis though, the base unit would probably have to be like a partially invisible wisp or something.

I think this would be an AWSOME idea, so long as you put some tiem and actual effort into it, which it sounds like your doing. But, if you've ever played Amored Core, and awsome mech game, then I say make it somewhat like that, (on the parts of the mech) and use a system like in Tank Commander (the WC3 game) to where you have a certain amount of weapon slots, depending on your chassis.

And ummm, tassadar920, how would you have a main model and tehn add thing onto it, cause that would help me a LOT in the map I'm working on.

I was only going to make a simple, this mixture makes this specific thingy with a few spins, and thats all, but now I'm going to do the chassis type thingy... o.o;;

Hmmm, I'm curios... Are you going to create new, different models for the legs, arms, guns, chassis, and what-not?
cause if you are, whoa dang!:ggani: you'll have to post this map so I can get it ASAP! (but not too soon);)
