Animation Contest!

Alright, listen up all you modelers out there! Here's something that (as far as I know) has never been done here at WC3C!
An Animation Competition!

I'm supplying a .max file of a cool model I made a couple mnths ago. It's just a mesh and skin right now, but once it's animated it will be released right away, with proper creds of course.

Prize:
The winner will get 150 points and a custom sig, not a very extravegant prize, but I think alot of people will want to see this model released, so that should be motivation enough.

Rules:
-Animated model must work in game.
-NO particle effects. I will add particle effects to the final version prior to releasing it. This is because not everybody who can animate can properly use particle emitters, so it's to keep things fair.
EDIT: disregard this Rule-Particle effects are now allowed- see later post.
-no more than 1 entry per participant, just like most contests here at wc3c.
-entries will be sent to me at [email protected]. Both the .mdx and .max files should be included. If for some reason you can't export just send the .max file.

Complete animations for the following actions must be present:
Stand, Walk, Attack, Spell, Spell Channel, Birth, Death, Dissipate, Decay Flesh, Decay Bone.

Optional: Stand 2, 3, ect. Attack 2, 3, ect. Spell 2, 3, ect. Stand Ready. Spell Slam.

A winner will be decided based on the following things:
-how real the movements appear
-how well one animation blends to the next (such as stand to walk)
-absence of any screwups (of course)
-and most of all, just how cool it looks.


So the main thing that will help you to win is your CREATIVITY! anybody can make a guy walk (especially when he floats!) but does the style and flow of movement suit the model? That's what we'll be looking at most.

Entries will be judged by me and some others who will stay anonymous. Paricipants will remain anonymous when I show the other judges the entries.

Hmm.

I changed the attachment. I didn't realize that it had note tracks already on it. The new one doesn't, it's blank.

but I don't see how that would've been your problem...

I cannot make an animation if i dont know what kind of unit it is, what is its behavior(i normally make animation match the units behavior).
I need a character description.

K, no problem with the animations, wish i had the skin to see exactly how it looks but ill deal. I wish i could use particles in this, I could do some really sweet timing effect with visibility, make him look a lil darker and eviler, that dam sux lol, but I'll do it n e ways hehe. Not 2 hard :)

Update 1: just finished the bone structure as of now, I may add ribs, but since he's dead, I don't see a point in brething but maybe...

Update 2: finished the bone structure linking, hehe time for some animating fun. After dinner of course!

Update 3: Done the animationsl. Now i need the skin to tweak the animations. Also I need to have particles... The death animation just wont be the same...

MaD[Lion]: that's the point. You're supposed to be making that up yourself. It wouldn't be much of a contest if you just did what I asked, it would be a request. :P

Arhcangel: I'm using 3DSMax 4.2. To animate you NEED to have 3DSMax. I don't know if v5 or v6 will work or not...

neverlotus: I'll add the .tga file so you can see the skin... I don't think you should worry about making him breathe lol.

thnx, ill have the model done in about umm... give me 30 minutes maybe a bit more

... in order for me to animate it properly i had to detach meshes. so now, it aint guna skin 2 nicely, so ima work on putting the skin back together for a bit

yeah I know.
you don't have to worry about that if you don't want to. I can transfer the TVert coordinates from the original file.

But I have some good news for you-

Particle effects will be allowed after all! It's unfair actually to not allow them because they play a large roll in the creativity of the animation, which is the point of the contest. They aren't required, though, and entries without them will be judged on equal ground with them, so don't worry about it if you can't/don't want to add them.

aight i'm done, ill send it to u ready way to that e-mail account, u didnt specify if you wanted sounds with the animations so i did not impliment any, however, if you want them, just ask, not 2 hard to do.

yeah I'm still here and everythings still going on.
Just kuz I'm not saying something every day doesn't mean it's cancelled or anything like that. The thread is stickied and there's still a month left in the contest, I don't see why I should even have to check the thread more than every couple of days. *shrug*

I did get your model, but I can't say anything till the contest closes.
err.. I guess I should've sent a confirmation that I got it, will remember to do that in the future.
