converting files to mp3

I have some really awesome .wav tracks that I'd LOVE to use in my map but they're not in MP3 format and I think that means I have to convert em :-\
How would I do that tho?
Also usually when I use custom music it makes the file too big and wont even get hosted on bnet!!! is there any effective way to make files a lot smaller? I mean one song tipped it way over apparently. (And no it doesn't repeat much, and cutting it would kinda suck...)

Stickied post, I noticed you already posted there. Though please next time try to look before you post. Won't delete this post so others can see the point.

I think that turotial Magic wrote is easy enough to understand. It does explain about mp3s.

the problem was that the programs would not turn on, at all. They froze everything up even. however now on the other post I'm starting to get some answers.\
