The point system is what replaces post count now, However, you can spend these points to get something like glow, font colour (username), custom avatars or titles and such (See forum store) also most people consider points as a good method to convince people to do something for them instead of just out of being nice. Points are pretty pointless after a while, but it's just for fun.
