Idle stand animations?

First of all, i'd like to say hello to everyone, this will be my first post here, I've been a silent observer for a while, kind of leeching off of the wisdom 8) However, I have a question that I cant seem to find the answer to anywhere, and im SURE someone here has a simple answer, so its time to speak out...


Anyway, it has to do with the idle animations for the units (e.g. stand - 4 in the preview pane in WE), I cant seem to get the one I want to play.

What I want, is to be able to play the animation that is labeled stand - 4 in WE for the satyr. I have tried probably about 30 different combinations of strings that i've guessed at, and I cant seem to get it to go.


I can get the cast/stand ready/ death animations to play for the unit, however getting the idle animations to play on cue is proving quite a bother.

If I play the stand animation, specifying only rare animations, I can get it to play the animation that is labeled stand - 3 in WE. However, I dont WANT stand 3.. I want stand 4!! :(

Anyway.. sorry for the long post, and thanks in advance for any help.

my mistake, I figured it was animation RELATED not animation creation in particular.


Been at it for another 2 hours.. im going to give up for today.. hopefully, ill be able to get this figured out soon, im going absolutely batty over this.

Well, the solution is quite easy, goto triggers-action. Choose:

Animation- Play <unit> animation (Specify rarity)

<unit> =in this case your selected unit
Animation = Stand 4
Rarity = using only rare animations

This fixes it. The crux is that Blizzard put a tag on the stand 4 (and the cinematic animations, like the "frostmourne lands at arthas feet") to prevent those being played when unit is idleling.

So this means if you want to play a specifik animation the unit usually dont show, use the above mentioned trigger and set rare instead of common

Yeah, I had the same problem, and the guy above is how I fixed. Also, I just said stand2 witout the spafce and it worked for me.

Well, I tried what you posted and no luck, I have tried specifying rare, as well as common, common animations dont respond, they just reset it to default stand at which point it will begin to cycle through the idle animations again as per usual. No matter what string I type in the animation field, if I specify rare, all it plays is stand-3 looped. I cant seem to get it to play the fourth one.

One thing to note is this isnt like arthas's stand animation with the blade hitting the ground, this is an idle animation that plays normally if the unit is standing there. I just want to know how to cue it when I want it.

Perhaps if you could try it with that specific unit, maybe there is something different about the satyr model? Or maybe it is just because the animation is one that is normally played as an idle..

Any help is appreciated.

P.S. I have noticed posts for more animations, such as the stand flesh animation for the villager.. where can I find a list of such animations?
