Does this protection method work?

I read somewhere that if u import a blank file from word or notepad into your map and put it's custom path as war3map.wtg, the map is corrupted and cannot be edited. Does it work?

i believe that there is no protection method that works perfectly. There are whole threads about this, try searching...

It really isn't that hard, as long as you know JASS.

Anyway, importing a blank war3map.wtg does work, but all it protects is your GUI triggers. If someone opens the map in WinMPQ then they can get access to your terrain, your custom object data and your JASS triggers. Try Heavy Locker, its in the Editing Tools forum.

Well not everyone knows jass, maybe 1 outta every 9 people know it, so it will keep noobs outta ur map, u know the kinda wintermaul, Dota noobs.

That is a very good way to protect your map from NOOBIE map stealing W h o r e s. Only peolpe who know JASS can edit them, because that is what it turns all your triggers into.


The way i feel is, if you disiplined enough to teach yourself JASS (they dont teach that in normal classes you know) then you are worthy to look at and edit my map.

How many people in this world know jass?? .0000001 of 1% of US population?

Feel safe protecting your map with that method.:D

You could also just delete the .wtg file -- this will not only remove the GUI triggers, but the WE won't open the map. Remember though, never do this to the original. Always create a copy of the original to protect and distribute.

Sorry, but no. It really isn't a good method. A dog could operate WinMPQ, and most B.Net players are slightly smarter than dogs. They can still get your terrain and your custom objects, which usually take the most work.

Please, I beg you, go and invest in a proper protector, it only takes a few minutes.

Yeah i guess it depends on what your doing. Me i spend most of my time on triggers. Those are most pressious to me.

sry folks but the protection does NOT work... I've experimented alot with it.. and if the user has the war3map.wtg file from the map.. he can still open it... and u can easy extract the file with winmpq....
so i would say no.. it dosnt work that good

I say that heavylocker + level 3 script obfuscation will cut down your map's size (mine gets 200 KB removed thanks to heavylock!), and at least scare the noobs that want to ruin your map. Other people may be able to survive that protection but they would be already good mappers that won't try to rip your map.

Man, 200 KB! that's why I love heavylocker
