The SA site is currently down, including SAVAGE, so here's the article of mine about MP3's:

Quote:
Overview: How to save files as MP3's.

MP3's are an important part of mods as they can greatly compress audio. This is a brief tutorial on how to convert wav's to MP3's for free.

The freeware application Audacity is a great and versatile sound editor, though to create MP3's with it you will need the LAME MP3 plugin.
If the page is down or you want the most recent version, Audacity's homepage is: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
The LAME MP3 encoder is available at: http://mitiok.free.fr/

If either of the above happen to be down, try here as both are conveniently available together. They are older versions but I doubt it will make much of a difference.
http://www.cs.iupui.edu/~aharris/web...mSoftware.html

Install Audacity, copy over the lame_enc.dll file (Putting it in the same directory as Audacity is easier) and load up the Audacity exe.
Go to File-Preferences and at the bottom will be the 'MP3 Export Area'. Click 'Find Library' and select the lame encoder dll file.
Also note the Bit Rate - by default it's 128 kbps (Kilo bits per second). The lower you go, the less the quality but the less the size at the same time. 128 is the standard average - some games like WarCraft 3 use it as a minimum.

Open up the wave file you wish to convert, go to Save - Export as MP3 and name it whatever you want.
Note: For MP3's to be used in Warcraft 3, do NOT use spaces. It causes problems in the editor. Underscores (This symbol: " _ ") are acceptable, though.

For other MP3-related programs and links, check out Daily MP3: http://www.dailymp3.com

That's it!
