A food? GIMP sounds more like a physical disability to me.

Hmm, when coloring, start with a dark background. White distorts your perception of the colors you are using. But don't we draw on white paper?, you may ask. Well, yes, and no. Paper is white, true, but a computer monitor is shooting light at you; paper is simply reflecting available light. Trust them on this one: white can mess with your judgement unless you are trained/experienced enough to work to compensate.

I don't have any particular advice to give, mainly because I can't see the pictures when I'm replying, and can't remember what they look like. Anyway, I think it looks like you're being a little too ginger with your coloring; don't be afraid to let loose and go outside the lines with wanton abandon.

Also, it;s generally a good idea to lay down all of the flats before you get into the fine details and shading. Determine what all of your colors are going to be throughout the entire image. Then lay them down. Then you can start the shading and lighting, and even texture after you've had some practice.

Keep it up. For saying it's your first coloring ever, this isn't too shabby at all.

I kinda stopped that one, im doing alot more coloring now. Mostly robots, much funner. Here is the one im currently working on. Can one of you explain to me how to operate layers? I am not sure exactly how they help color emote_confused . (This is my second, BTW, it is mouse single layer)

PS: Drawing is by Moon_Lunatic, inked by Angel of Light.

first of all you can use layers to get rid of those white lines around the line art. put your colour in a separate layer from your line art, then put the line art layer on top and set it to multiply :D also if you have layers you can apply effects to certain layer only making it easier to achieve some effects... Also if you put different colours on different layers you often don't have to worry about overlapping and you can erase a layer if you don't like the colour scheme or whatever without erasing the rest of the picture... I suggest looking for some tutorials on the internet. I'm not exactly sure of any good sites since i've never used them myself but if you ask some people i'm sure they'll know.. Also Practice!!!!:D
