So I'm trying to animate a new model, using 3dsmax 4 and the art tools. I have the bones set up and animated beautifully, and it looks fine in the view window thing, but when I use the Previewer the mesh doesn't animate. It's the walk animation so far that's set up, so in the Previewer the ground is moving, but the mesh just stands there. I have no idea why this is happening, I talked to someone in mIRC last night who said they had the same problem, but didn't know what it was or how to fix it. So somebody PLEASE gimme some ideas as to what the hell is going on. thx Sheyd |

did you use animation skin modifier? (must be no) did you linked the mesh to the bones? (must be yes) did you use the recommended controllers (bezier, linear, tcb) way too few data here that i cannot help you, sorry |

mhh I don't think It should look all that nice in the view window thing... Did you cut up your mesh into several meshes and link them to your bones? Edited because: didn't realize the guy above pointed this out already. |

Aha! there's the problem. Yes I did use an Animation>Skin Modifier. ok, I can fix it now... wait. before I go and start messing about with it, how do I link the mesh to the bones without using the modifier? I have tried searching through the help files and tutorials and the only way I can find to do it is to use the Skin modifier and edit the envelopes... After all this experience I've just gone right back to n00b now haven't I? lol |

meh, no, animation skin SHOULD be used , but wc3 art tools doesnt support it. You have to cut like the model in pieces (mesh cutting) and link each part. Should be the left top button (its a button with two boxes with a fine thread linking eachother. There is another box but with waves in between; that one is for gravity binding btw) |

yeah, using the art tools so can't use it. Oh, man, I'm a friggin' retard.... for some reason I thought that could only be used for linking bones to each other (creating parents&children) geez.... ok, everythings fine now. Thanks everybody for helping. Sheyd |
