Yes - there are art colleges out there (there are even ones devoted to level design and game art) I haven't been to one so I don't know of the requirements - but I'm sure Xmettalium could give you an idea - since she attends one. |

im attending cca (california college of art) majoring in illustration this fall. there are plenty of art colleges out there, just depends on where you are and what you wanna study. your school should be a good place to ask for information. |

I don't know about other countries, but in the States specialized colleges (such as art colleges) cost a hell of a lot more than community college or universities. For instance, U of A (university) is around $1800 per semester for full-time status, and Phoenix's art college is $7000 either per semester or per year - so be prepared to pay a wad. Also, most of them that I know require portfolios to get in. If you don't know how to make a portfolio, either do some net searching or (the better option) find an art teacher at your highschool to give you advice, and perhaps even review your work. I'd be attending an art college if not for the cost. =( |

SHERIDAN COLLEGE TORONTO CANADA!!! Well most colleges have a 'fundmentals' course which is a one year course than helps you build a portfolio...so then next year you can compete with the others for a position in the actual courses... Technically it's a zero to hero course, but in reality, if you don't know how to draw, don't go. It accepts anybody, but those who actually benefits from it are those who'd had at least some sort of art background. My course here is around 3000CAN, and it gives you the starter kit to go with it. However, you're required to buy more stuff on the way, |

You can always start by going to an art high school. Pretty expensive I believe. I hear that the Pasadena Art College is one of the top. The Chicago one as well... My neighbor goes to Pasadena Art College. |

There is an art college in Toronto 0_o ? That is awesome. Once I move I intend to go back after high school. But a question, (I am sorry, I am really uneducated on the subject) is it a good place to go for other subjects as well? |

no i believe that art schools only focus on art and design, maybe a bit of computer animation and stuff as well but other than that they have no other types of courses, at least not the one here in vancouver. |

The one in Vancouver: Emily Carr? Art collages deals with everything regarding to art and design. So aside for your convenvtion illustration and 2d design...some would have animation, 3d design, threatrical arts (performances, television), visual merchandising, fashion...etc etc etc. |

In Canada, there aren't too many guesses as to what art school anybody is referring to if given a location. Emilly Carr: I have heard that it is not the best place to have gone. I have seen more peoples' dissatisfaction than not. Not that I'm trying to discourage you, but I have heard through word of mouth that there are better places one can go. Sheridan: What will you be majoring in, Xmetallium? Not animation, by any chance? I have heard that Sheridan's animation program is quite prestigious. Though, it's repertoire of other programs looks very attractive. Myself, I plan on going to teh ACAD in Alberta. I should like to get a BFA or a BDE; I have not yet decided. If the former, majoring in Media Arts & Digital Technologies, the latter in Illustration. So yeah, if you are interested, it is definitely worth it to do some of your own research (though this is probably a redundant statement, as anybody with a mind to go has already doen this). Go to www.conceptart.org or www.eatpoo.com and look in the forums, under art education, and you might find some information of use. |

ya i've also heard the emily carr isn't that great. theres another collage in vancouver called capilano collage that is supposed to have a good art program, and since its a college it would be cheaper too. :ggani: |

if you're gonna be studying art at an art college lightkirtar, you probably wont be taking any other courses besides art.... (so if you planned on getting a doctors degree, art school wouldnt be the place to go) and yea, the prices are crazy... art institutes cost around $60,000+ for all of it, while you can go to any other good university for half that. :bgrun: i dont know a lot about what colleges exist as i'm still a sophomore in high school, but i've looked around a bit for art schools and they're definitely not cheap. but all the good stuff in the category of concept art is in california (if you live in the US). my plan to go to a good college and become a professional artist (despite the fact that i am currently a slacker in high school): 1. get through the hell known as high school getting a gpa just good enough to be able to take top level courses in a community college (in case they dont use them somewhere else, GPA is grade point average.. and its the most important number when it comes to your grades in school) 2. go to a community college and work really hard getting perfect grades for 2 years 3. somehow get a lot of money (crime?) and transfer to an art college, where they will then look at only your community college gpa and not your highschool history as you are coming from there. 4. enjoy the last 2 years of being in an art college, and graduate after having some crazy college parties. 5. move to california (if i didnt already move to go to a college in california) and work as a concept artist (for blizzard!!! :D ) hmm... but do they have crazy college parties at art institutes? i just keep getting this image of the wildest parties involving sitting around sipping coffee and reading poetry.... :bgrun: |
