Download section=under strict rule

The download secton has been the target of flamers or spammers lately so we are going to enforce the rules there more strictly.

Expect the changes to take in effect very soon. Changes that are most noticable:

- only users that are regisered longer then a few months (exact will be known soon enough) are allowed to post comments in the download section.

- spammers and flamers get banned on sight IMMEDIATELY and their posts removed. No warning, no Pm's , nada. Other posts/comments related to the flamer/spammers post are also removed but not banned

- idiotic behaviour like smiley spamming or icon spamming which do not contribute the download at any way WILL be counted as the above group and WILL get the same treatment. This only applies to the new downloads. Old ones are soon to be cleaned from those comments.

- uploads of work or other people's work must be under the consence of their approvall; if we find out that you have uploaded a file from another site source (campaign creations, metalplanet etc) without permission from the creator, the download will be taken out and a warning is issued.

- new uploads must meet a certain criteria before they are accepted. They must have a readme.txt included with the instructions to install. Failing to do this will result in declining the upload. Applies to all except maps/campaigns

Soon to be expected:

- the ability to update your file
- lowering the point requirement to upload without administration verification
- a special link section of other download sites that are worth visiting.

Have a nice day,

Sounds good, but I think that only users that have been registered for a few months is a little 1-sided. There are many people who have been around for a month and give friendly incite and useful critique. There are plenty of assholes on the board that have been around for quite a while.

No big deal to me really - just my thoughts. I don't even post on the downloads board.

Perhaps you could alter it so that points aren't the only way of being able to submit without admin verification? There are other things that could be considered more important and effective (post count, user rank, registration date etc). When the downloads section was first implemented, Stoned said that other ways would be created, but I have yet to see them.

Also, just out of interest, when you move the vB3 (I'd assume in a short amount of time), are you going to have to redo or at least update the Download engine?

Ah yes cracking down the whip!
*smacks a whip on the floor*

I get so damn sick of the 1st comment and smiley spam n00bs. Nice to see that it will be stopped :ggani:
Making a rule of having to have a readme with the file is a good idea too. I don't see why people post files w/o a readme in the first place. That makes them extremely prone to having their stuff stolen.

Most of the download system has already been updated on the vb3 test board. It will be stable and ready when we change. The aforementioned comment 'waiting period' will be an automatic feature of the site. The main idea behind it is to prevent repeat offenders who simply evade bans to sign up new accounts. I imagine they will get rather bored if they have to wait at least a few weeks (still undetermined) until they can try and spam again.

They wont be able to get back on the comments section again after they are banned, would they?

That 1st post crap does get annoying. Probably the worst thing. You should ban those people instantly.

Will the readme text rule apply to existing files and such? Because i really wouldn't want to have to re-upload, though i'm willing to update my files with such

Actaully, as for Comments i think Those should have to be approved by a member of the WC3C administration or moderation.
