I'm trying to convert MDX/MDL files to 3DS files so that I can edit the files in 3D Studio Max. I do know how to use 3DSMax, but not a single program/converter I've used have done its job and converted the file correct. Yobgul's Converter, for instance, won't work (maybe because of the patch), and this is the same with ALL the programs I've tried. Please help me and explain how to convert MDL files to 3DS files and the other way again, so that I can use my own model in the game… Thanks in advance |

you DON'T make 3ds files. You convert .mdx to .mdl then use the importer (get it in downloads) to import the .MDL into 3dsmax. Remember the importer doesn't work with max6. (as far as I know) |

I've tried to convert the MDX files to MDL, but without success. Think I'm doing it wrong, however, I'll try it again… |

Get Kmk's importer, imports static though (bones and stuff are not done yet, but basically not far behind of nicoli's) . It imports mdx;I use ths to extract geosets and create new models basing off blizzards' |

Now, I've figured out how to use Yobgul's File Converter and I've converted a *.MDX file to a *.MDL. This works fine, but when I start 3DSMax and try to import the mdl file, the massages: And then... Appears! I've tried to run some scripts that should enable import/export of these files, but it still won't work. What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance |

You can't import .mdl using 3ds lol... You have to click on the hammer icon (to the far right) and run the .mdl import script. Then use the script (located just below the hammer place) to import your .mdl :) wish it were as easy as file -> import -> .mdl but it's not :( |
